TCU Battles for Big Wins at Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - Two singles player and two doubles teams have moved into the quarterfinals and semifinals at the USTA/ITA All-American Championships after multiple victories were posted on Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Senior Will Stein along with newcomer Cameron Norrie each posted two singles wins on Sunday to move into the quarterfinals of the singles bracket, while the doubles tandems of Stein and Nick Chappell and Norrie and Trevor Johnson each earned a berth in the semifinals of the doubles bracket.
"We played a lot of tennis," coach David Roditi said. "The highlight today was Will Stein's comeback in three consecutive matches. He showed a lot of courage and mental toughness and I am proud of him. Cameron and Trevor had a great day beating a tough Texas team and Texas Tech's best doubles pair."
Stein had to make a comeback in each of his singles matches to earn his way into the quarterfinals. The Argyle, Texas, native started his opening match slow and dropped the first set 6-1 to the No. 13 seed AJ Catanzariti of Texas A&M. Stein was able to bounce back to take the next two sets, 7-5, 6-4, to steal the match and come out victorious.
In his round of 16 matchup, Stein was in for a battle as the first two sets would go into tiebreakers to determine a winner. Stein lost the first set, 7-6, to Jordan Szabo of Texas A&M, but was able to even the match up at one set a piece after taking the win in the second set tiebreaker, 7-6. Stein used the momentum from the second set tiebreaker to easily take the final set 6-1 and the match.
Norrie was able cruise into the quarterfinals with two straight-set victories for the Auckland, New Zealand, native. Norrie started the day with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Leo Ivic of Incarnate Word before completely dominating Michael Riechmann of Texas, 6-0, 6-1 to earn his spot in the quarterfinal.
Stein and Norrie will have to face each other in the quarterfinals on Monday, with their matchup set for 9 a.m., on the campus of Texas A&M.
On the doubles side of the tournament, the No. 1 seeded team and the nationally ranked No. 5 duo of Chappell and Stein continued their unbeaten streak by winning their fifth and sixth consecutive matches of the fall season. The pair began by overcoming Nicholas Melott and Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech, 8-7 before taking care of Nicholas Agritelley and Guilherme Gesser of Abilene Christian, 8-2.
The newcomer tandem of Norrie and Johnson also continued their winning ways in the doubles bracket and were able to pick up victories over two Big 12 foes. The duo began with an 8-6 win over the No. 5 seeded team of Adrien Berkowicz and Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas, before battling to take an 8-7 victory over the No. 35 nationally ranked team of Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares of Texas Tech.
Chappell and Stein will take on Tony Lupieri and Felipe Rios of Baylor in the first semifinal match, while Norrie and Johnson will have to face Michael Feucht and Nikita Lis of Lamar in the second semifinal.
