TCU Posts Multiple Wins at Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team picked up multiple wins on the first day of the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
Five singles players, along with three doubles tandems are into the next rounds that will begin at 9 a.m., on Sunday on the campus of Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
In singles action, Hudson Blake was able to notch a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jason Proctor of Abilene Christian and will face No. 15 Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M tomorrow in the Round of 32. Guillermo Nuñez bounced back from a first set loss to Jhonathan Gonzalez of UT Arlington to win the match 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(8). The freshman will face No. 112 Tony Lupieri on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Will Stein battled to a three-set victory over Hector Ramirez of UTPA with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win in the Round of 64 and will face off against AJ Catanzariti of Texas A&M in the next round. Hot off his run in the pro circuit tournament, Cameron Norrie easily defeated Francisco Colunga of Texas A&M, 6-3, 6-3 to move into next round action tomorrow.
No. 34 Nick Chappell was the final Horned Frog to continue action in the singles bracket and need a second-set tiebreaker to take down David Warren of Rice, 7-5, 7-6(1). Chappell will take on Jacoby Lewis of Texas in the Round of 32 on Sunday.
In doubles, the No. 1 seed and No. 5 nationally ranked pair of Chappell and Stein moved into the sweet 16 with a dominant 8-2 victory over Daniel Armengel and Mario Muniesa of UT Arlington. The duo will have to take on Jolan Cailleau and Nicholas Melott of Texas Tech starting in the afternoon on Sunday.
The newcomer duo of Norrie and Trevor Johnson also moved on by shutting out Diego Casa and Mark Ginting of UTSA 8-0, as the duo will have to take on the No. 5 seeded team of Adrien Berkowicz and Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas in the next round.
Nuñez and Blake Wiggins were the final doubles duo to earn a spot in the sweet 16, as the pair were able to defeat Henrik Munch and Zachary Yablon of Rice 8-2 on Saturday. The tandem will have to take on the No. 3 seeded team from Texas Tech, Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares in the afternoon doubles session.
