
Men's Tennis Preps for Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will head to College Station, Texas for the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on the campus of Texas A&M on Oct. 18-20 at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The annual regional will feature competitors from 14 different schools in Texas, while TCU will have eight Horned Frogs compete in the singles and doubles brackets at the championships. The winners of the singles and doubles draws will earn an automatic bid into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York on Nov. 7-10.
The senior doubles duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein have already earned a bid to the national indoor championships after winning the consolation doubles bracket at the ITA All-American Championships.
The first round of singles will begin at 9 a.m., on Saturday with Blake Wiggins and Trevor Johnson competing first on the court for TCU. Wiggins will face Guillaume Rauso of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, while Johnson will take on Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., Chappell, Stein, Hudson Blake and Trey Daniel will all start singles action. No. 34 Chappell, who earned the No. 5 seed in the draw, will take on David Warren of Rice, while Stein is set to face Hector Ramirez of UTPA. Blake is set to face Jason Proctor of Abilene Christian and Daniel will take the court against Mikko Rajamaki of Lamar.
Fresh off his run in a pro circuit event, Cameron Norrie along with Guillermo Nuñez will be the final singles competitors on the court for TCU. Norrie, who earned the No. 14 seed in the bracket, earned a bye and will face the winner of Juuso Laitinen of Lamar and Francisco Colunga of Texas A&M. Nunez, the No. 2 newcomer/freshman in the ITA rankings, will face the winner of the Tucker Brown of Incarnate Word and Jhonathan Gonzalez of UT Arlington.
Doubles action will get underway on Saturday afternoon, with Chappell and Stein earning the top overall seed in the bracket. The No. 5 ranked duo will face the UT Arlington team of Daniel Armengel and Mario Muniesa in the round of 32 at 4:30 p.m.
Blake and Daniel will see the court first in doubles, with the tandem set to face Koby Jansen and Hector Ramirez of UTSA at 3 p.m., while newcomers Norrie and Johnson will team up to take on Mark Ginting and Diego Casas of UTSA. Wiggins and Nuñez will be the final doubles team, as the duo will face Henrik Munch and Zachary Yablon of Rice.
