LARAMIE, Wyo. - TCU outshot Wyoming, 18-13, including 10-7 in the second half, but dropped a 1-0 conference match to the Cowgirls on Friday afternoon.
TCU controlled the ball for most of the match with solid ball movement and crisp passing, but missed on several shots, including one off the backline.
At the 5:37 mark, Wyoming's Tamika Wilson netted the long goal of the match from outside the box. Michelle Nguyen, a sophomore from Richardson, tried to put TCU on the board early in the half off an assist from Jackie Torda, but watched as her shot sailed wide of the posts.
Torda, a freshman from Colleyville, connected on a shot 10 minutes later, but had her shot saved by Cowgirl goalkeeper Ashley Sheppard.
Overall, TCU outshot the Pokes 8-6 for the period and had several chances to find the back of the net. Torda led the Horned Frog offensive attack with four shots, including two on goal.
Torda came out firing early in the second half, but had her shot sail wide. Junior Caroline Starns followed with a shot of her own, but couldn't split the posts.
Starns almost scored again in the 78th minute after Sheppard came 20 yards out of the box to save a ball, but had her shot sail wide of the goal.
Finally, Cheryl Martin tried to tie the match at 1-1 off a corner kick from Michell Nguyen late in the match, but had her shot blocked by the UW defense. Nguyen closed out the match taking a free kick from just outside the box, but couldn't find the goal.
Overall, TCU was led on offense by Torda, who posted five shots, while Starns produced four, including one on goal.
