TCU suffers first loss of season on road

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 15th ranked TCU women's soccer team dropped a competitive battle against No. 18 Alabama, 3-2, on Thursday night at Alabama Soccer Stadium.

THE RUNDOWN
To open, the first half saw a trio of goals scored overall, as the action was rampant in the first 17 minutes between the Horned Frogs (1-1-1) and Alabama. The Crimson Tide got the scoring started in the eighth minute off a penalty kick that occurred from a TCU handball inside the box.

A response was had less than seven minutes later, as Emma Yolinsky had an effort-filled play to steal the ball from an Alabama defender, line herself up to the goal while outside the box and then ricochet in a shot to tie the match up at 1-1.

However, the even match would not last long, as Alabama would secure a corner kick in the 17th minute, lift the ball into the box, and have it land in the back of the net off a TCU own goal.

The rest of the first half did not see any goals scored, but the intensity was there between both sides. During the first 45 minutes, TCU had four shots with one on goal, and Alabama notched nine shots with three on goal.

Coming out into the second half, TCU brought a newfound energy in the opening minutes that would pay off sooner rather than later. In the 48th minute, Eres Freifeld was found on the wing and would create a way to get off a cross into the box. Yolinsky was left unmarked and was able to head the ball into the back of the net to tie the match up once again.

The match would not stay equalized for long, as less than 10 minutes later in the 55th minute Ashley Roni for Alabama was found streaking down the field and was able to put one under Olivia Geller's reach to put the Crimson Tide up 3-2.

Following this goal, and despite three more TCU shots and a handful of good chances created, Alabama was able to hold onto the lead and come out on top at the conclusion of the match.

Geller spent all 90 minutes in goal tonight for the Frogs, totaling four saves.

MATCH NOTABLES

Emma Yolinsky scored her first goal of the season during the first half on a strike from outside the box. To follow that up, she scored off a header to grab a brace during the match.
With the two-goal performance, Emma Yolinsky secured the second brace of her career. The last occurrence was the NCAA Tournament matchup against Grambling State.
Eres Freifeld notched her second collegiate assist during the Yolinsky goal to begin the second half.
Emma Yolinsky's four shots ties a season high that was set in the last match against UTSA.
Kaela Martinez secured the second start of her career tonight against the Crimson Tide, while Cameron Byrd notched her first start as a Horned Frog.
Zoe Cuneio, Kamdyn Fuller, Olivia Geller, Cameron Patton and Evie Baker played all 90 minutes tonight for the Frogs.
Madison Taylor, Hannah Harms, Mackenzie Hilderman, Giovanna Costanzo and Grace Vest came on as substitutions tonight for TCU.
Coming into tonight, TCU held an undefeated streak during the regular season against ranked opponents since Aug. 25, 2024.
