FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU Women's Basketball Head Coach Jeff Mittie announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. Emily Carter (F, 6-1, Bossier City, La./Airline H.S.), Shayla Moore (G, 5-6, Denison, Texas/Denison H.S.) and Danielle Nunn (G, 5-9, Arlington, Texas/Arlington Bowie H.S.) will join the Lady Frogs for the 2006-07 season."We went into the signing period wanting guard depth and versatility and to add another inside player," Mittie said. "We didn't get the inside player. We still have some work to do and we'd like to get another three- or four-type player. We accomplished quite a bit.
"I don't get into what other schools they were recruited by. I don't care who was recruiting them. We recruited them and we think they're pretty good. This is a group that wins. We look for recruits who fit into what we're trying to do here and winning is certainly an important part of that."
Carter averaged 19 points, 6.5 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per game for Airline H.S. She was an all-state, all-conference and all-city selection there. Carter also snagged Wendy's Heisman Player of the Year honors for the state of Louisiana as a junior.
"Emily Carter can play a variety of spots," Mittie said. "We wanted guard depth and to get versatile players. She can really shoot the three -- she's a lefty. She can post or put it to the floor. I like her basketball IQ. I saw her this summer and she understood when she needed to score 30 and when the post needed to score 30. That's something we were looking for."
Moore tallied 29.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and six steals per game at Denison H.S. Her honors include being named all-state, all-region and all-district by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Girls Coaches Association. She was ranked as the 11th best recruit in the state by Texas Girls Basketball Report.
"Shayla Moore is a terrific scorer," Mittie said. "She led the area in that at 29.6 points per game. She's a fantastic scorer. Out of all the guards I saw, she can shoot it from 23, 24 or 25 feet. That's what we liked about her. She can play the two or the point. I saw her running the point this summer and still score 35 points."
Nunn racked up 12.5 points, seven rebounds, 4.5 assists and five steals per game for Arlington Bowie H.S. In addition to being named all-state, all-region and all-district by the TABC and TGCA, Nunn was tabbed MVP of the state tournament last season after leading her team to the title with a 35-5 record. She was rated as the eighth best player in Texas by TGBR and 85th best in the nation by All-Star Girls Report. Nunn was also an adidas All-American as a junior.
"Danielle Nunn was the MVP of the state tournament," Mittie said. "She is a fantastic athlete and the most versatile in the group. She can get to the rim and is an open-court player. She can be one of the best defenders in the league. She'll be a great college player because she can create plays."
