DESTIN, Fla. -- TCU, the 2001-02 regular season champion, has been named the host institution for the 2004 Conference USA Women's Basketball Tournament, associate director of athletics and senior women's administrator Marcy Girton announced on Thursday from the league meetings in Destin, Fla.
Conference USA's senior women's administrators had approved TCU for the women's basketball tournament on Monday, and league athletic directors completed the process with their approval on Thursday afternoon. Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, a 7,260-seat arena on the TCU campus, will serve as the site for the event. The Lady Frogs have compiled a 28-6 (.824) mark at home over the last two seasons.
"I think it's great for the university, the community, and it's obviously great for our basketball program," TCU head coach Jeff Mittie said. "It really shows our commitment to women's basketball here. There will be a lot of work for everybody, but it's a great event. It brings in a tournament with an NCAA berth on the line, and multiple berths on the line as the league continues to grow."
The 2002 tournament was hosted by DePaul (Chicago, Ill.), while Memphis (Memphis, Tenn.) serves as the 2003 tourney host. Under the current rules, the top 12 teams in the conference standings advance to the tournament.
