No. 5 TCU Splits Top-15 Matchups to Open Season

Frogs fell to No. 11 Arizona State before defeating No. 13 Grand Canyon
PHOENIX – On the first day of the season for the new-look TCU beach volleyball team, the fifth-ranked Horned Frogs dropped a contest to No. 11 Arizona State before coming back to defeat host and 13th-ranked Grand Canyon at GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
Several newcomers made their debut for the Horned Frogs (1-1) during each match. In addition, prior to today not a single pair that competed has played together in a collegiate match.
MATCH ONE – No. 5 TCU 1, No. 11 Arizona State 4
TCU dropped its first contest of the season, 4-1, to Big 12-foe and 11th-ranked Arizona State (2-0).
The match was very competitive, as four of five courts went to three sets.
Opening the match, Anna Long and Melina Mol at No. 4 fell in three sets to the Sun Devil pair. However, the No. 2 position with Anhelina Khmil and Stacy Reeves were able to pick up their point in three sets to tie the match.
With both teams needing two more points the match turned to the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 positions. Natalie Glenn and Sofia Izuzquiza at No. 1 fell in the lone two-setter of the match.
At No. 5 and No. 3, the TCU pairs were able to battle and force third sets in two thrillers, but ultimately dropped their match which gave the Sun Devils their second victory of the season.

TCU was able to get its swagger back in the second match, storming out to a 2-0 lead and finishing the job to pick up the first win of the season on Friday night.
Opening things up at No. 4 was Deniela Konstantinova and Morgan Williams, who earned a two-set victory to start the momentum for the Frogs.
Anhelina Khmil and Stacy Reeves stormed back from an 11-21 first set loss to take the second point for the Frogs.
GCU (1-1) was able to pick up a point on five, defeating Marcela Mattoso and Olivia Clines.
The momentum would continue at three, with Melina Mol and Hannah Taylor making quick work to secure the victory for the Frogs.
On the final court, the No. 1 position of Natalie Glenn and Sofia Izuzquiza won a three-set thriller to close out TCU's first win of the season.
