WACO, Texas – TCU and Texas delivered another hardcourts classic on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the ITA Indoor National Championships.
But this time around, it was the fifth-ranked Horned Frogs who found themselves on the wrong end of a thriller, as No. 6 Texas rallied from two courts down to earn a 4-3 victory at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
TCU (8-2) won the doubles point and stretched the lead to 2-0 after Albert Pedrico rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five over Jonah Braswell. The Longhorns (7-3) got on the board with a win at the No. 1 post and momentum shifted, as courts two, three and four all went to a third set. TCU only claimed one, a 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-5 comeback effort from Cooper Woestendick over Abel Forger on three. The match came down to a winner-take-all battle on court six, where Roger Pascual fell 3-6, 6-7 (5) to Oliver Ojakaar.
The Horned Frogs turn the page and face either No. 3 Wake Forest or No. 19 Baylor at noon on Sunday in a back draw match. TCU beat the Bears 4-1 on Feb. 5 in Fort Worth.
"Man, what a battle," said head coach David Roditi. "Unfortunately, Texas got it. Absolute war. Obviously, you always feel like you can do some things better and miss some opportunities, but at the end of the day, it's credit to Texas. Oliver played some great tennis there to close out that last match. And that's it. That's all there is to say. Just another battle. We'll be seeing them again. Great program, clean match, just good tennis out there. And unfortunately, they got the win. So, we get to play tomorrow against the loser of Wake Forest and Baylor, and it'll be a test of our character, and we'll learn from this and go to battle."
Saturday's loss marks the first time in four seasons the Horned Frogs have not reached the semifinals of a national championship event. TCU was last unable to reach the final four at the 2022 NCAA Championships.
TCU and Texas faced off for the 12th time in the last four years. The pair of powerhouse programs have each won six head-to-heads in that span. The next chapter in the rivalry unfolds on March 7 when TCU travels to Austin to battle the Longhorns.
Doubles Rundown
TCU was the clear favorite to claim the doubles point and validated the pre-match calculus.
The Horned Frogs broke early and built 3-1 leads on all three courts.
Oliver Bonding and Cooper Woestendick got off the court first, taking down Forger and Kalin Ivanovski 6-3 at the one.
Duncan Chan and Cosme Rolland De Ravel clinched via an identical score on the 2-line at the expense of Sebastian Gorzny and Lucas Marioneau.
Filip Apltauer and Albert Pedrico led Ojakaar and Sebastian Eriksson 5-4 before leaving their match unfinished.
TCU has won the doubles point in all 10 of its duals this season.
The Frogs still have yet to drop court two or three in any match.
Chan and Rolland De Ravel, tabbed 22nd in the ITA rankings ahead of Indoor Nationals, remained perfect at 13-0 overall and 8-0 in duals.
Bonding and Woestendick moved to 5-2 as TCU's No. 1 doubles pair.

Singles Rundown
Pedrico figured to be the favorite vs. Braswell after sweeping the senior in TCU's semifinal victory over the Longhorns in the semifinals of the 2025 NCAA Championships.
The Spaniard delivered and gave TCU exactly what it needed, which was to get a court on the board quickly.
Pedrico boosted his career singles record in team national championships to 9-2 and has won five straight matches in that setting. The sophomore is also 3-0 vs. Texas, with wins over Braswell and Eriksson.
But Texas slowly closed the gap on the other courts. The top-half all saw a first set tiebreaker. TCU's lone victory came from Rolland De Ravel over Ivanovski, who preserved a set victory with an 8-6 breaker after losing a 5-1 double break.
Ivanovski had control of the match, though, and took sets two and three 6-1, 6-2.
Gorzny defeated Chan 7-6 (2), 6-4 in a battle of two of the nation's top-10 players to secure Texas' first point. Each player broke the other's first three service games in a wild first set. Gorzny ultimately served better. Chan fell behind 2-5 in the second frame and misfired on a slice in a deuce point three games later that would have leveled the second set.
Bonding dropped a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 4-6 decision to Eriksson on court four in what proved to be the key juncture in the match. The freshman broke early in set three and led 2-0, only to give it back. Pascual surrendered set one as Bonding was again forced to play catch up. Like Chan, he gave up match point on a deuce while serving.
