Edmonds, Punch record double-doubles
FORT WORTH – TCU scored the final 10 points of the game to overcome a nine-point deficit and win its eighth-straight over Oklahoma State in Schollmaier Arena with a 68-65 victory over the Cowboys on Tuesday.
David Punch continued his breakout season and made the game-winning shot with 6.3 remaining. With the game tied, the sophomore forward drove to the lane and hit the one-handed floater, part of his 22-point performance, which tied a career high. Punch added 10 rebounds for his third double-double this season.
After a missed 3-pointer by Vyctorius Miller and a near miss tip-in by Isaiah Coleman, Oklahoma State (14-5, 2-4) fouled Punch, who made one of his two free throw attempts.
TCU (12-7, 2-4) trailed by as many as nine points midway through the second half and by seven, 65-58, with 4:13 to play. The Cowboys did not score the remainder of the game, missing their last seven shots.
The Frogs got two big buckets by Xavier Edmonds, one to cut it to a five-point deficit and then another to cut it to three, 65-62, with 1:49 to play. Edmonds finished with his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Tying the game was Liutauras Lelevicius, who returned to the game after an ankle injury and made his second 3-pointer to tie it at 65-65 with 1:10 remaining. Lelevicius scored 10 points and had six boards.
TCU's second-half defense was a big part of the win. After shooting 58.1 percent in the first half, the Cowboys shot 29.0 percent in the second half.
The Horned Frogs will hit the road and to play at Baylor on Saturday at 5 p.m. for a game on ESPN2.
