Horned Frogs head to Morgantown for critical Big 12 showdown

FORT WORTH – TCU will play three of its next four games away from home, starting Wednesday when the 10^th-ranked Horned Frogs head to Appalachia to face West Virginia.

The midweek matchup in Morgantown is an important game relative to the race for the Big 12 championship. Both TCU and West Virginia enter with 4-1 conference records and are a part of a four-way tie for second place in the league standings. The teams will rematch on Feb. 15 in Fort Worth.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

TCU has won 13 of its last 14 games and four of five on the road vs. Big 12 foes dating back to Feb. 5, 2025.
TCU is squaring off with West Virginia as an AP Top 10 team for the third straight game.
West Virginia is one of only two teams to twice defeat TCU in the Mark Campbell era. Both of those wins came in 2024 in the aftermath of a rash of injuries that forced TCU to hold open tryouts. TCU had just seven healthy scholarship players in both games.
TCU is searching for its first win in Morgantown since March 7, 2020.
TCU bounced the Mountaineers from the semifinals of the 2025 Big 12 Championship in the programs' most recent meeting. The Frogs finished with 10 turnovers in their 71-65 win, the fewest committed in a game vs. a Mark Kellogg-led WVU defense.
Since losing to WVU on Feb. 13, 2024, TCU has competed to a 55-8 overall record.

Frog Focus

TCU received its 18th top-10 ranking in The Associated Press poll on Monday since November of 2024 after having never cracked the AP Top 10 in its previous 47 seasons of existence.
The Frogs have been the Big 12's highest-rated team in the AP Top 25, USA Today Sports Coaches Poll (No. 9) and NCAA Net Rankings (No. 9) in eight of the last nine weeks.
TCU's average margin of victory vs. the Big 12 over the last two seasons is 16.5 points.
TCU has outscored its opponent in the paint in every game. Forty-eight percent of the Horned Frogs' total offensive output (682 points) has come via points in the paint.
Moreover, the Frogs have finished with the edge in 3-pointers and points in the paint in 15-of-17 games.
TCU is among of a handful of outfits in the country getting it done at an elite level on both sides of the ball. TCU is one of three teams shooting it better than 49 percent from the field while holding opponents below a 33 percent clip. The others are No. 2 South Carolina and No. 6 LSU.
The Horned Frogs rank second and third, respectively, among all D1 teams in field goal percentage defense (.312) and scoring defense (52.1 ppg).
TCU has held and NCAA-leading eight opponents below 30 percent shooting from the field while 11 opponents have been unable to connect above a 33 percent clip.
ASU became the eighth opponent TCU has prevented from tallying 50 points.
Only one team - Utah - has scored more than 65 points vs. the Frogs' defense in regulation.
Seventeen games into the 2025-26 campaign, the Frogs are one of only four teams in college basketball alongside No. 1 UConn, No. 2 South Carolina and No. 4 Texas and scoring at least 80 points per game while allowing less than 55.
Under Mark Campbell, TCU has prevented 85 percent of its opponents (72-86) from meeting their season scoring average, including 15-of-17 this year.
TCU has held seven teams to their lowest scoring output of the season, most recently in back-to-back home victories over Oklahoma State and Arizona State.
The Horned Frogs' primary starting five of Olivia Miles, Marta Suarez, Donovyn Hunter, Maddie Scherr and Clara Silva is the fifth highest-scoring unit in college basketball at 66 points per game. Only South Carolina (76.5 ppg), Oklahoma (72.1 ppg), Notre Dame (70.3 ppg) and UCLA (68.5 ppg) have higher scoring starting lineups.
Miles, Suarez and Silva are the only teammate trio in the country averaging at least 10 points and six rebounds per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.
All three players have scored in double figures in each of TCU's last seven games.
Either Miles, Silva or Suarez have led TCU on the boards in every game.
TCU is the only team in the country with five players who have knocked down at least 20 threes this season; Suarez (41), Hunter (34), Miles (28), Scherr (26) and Taylor Bigby (24).
The five players are responsible for 91 percent of TCU's total 3-point offense (153-168). The quintet is averaging 9.1 threes per game.
In 11 of TCU's 17 games, Suarez, Hunter, Miles, Scherr and Bigby have combined to connect at least eight times from distance.
TCU has received a 20-point performance by Miles, Suarez or Hunter in 11 games.
Miles and Suarez are the highest-scoring duo in the Big 12 at 36.8 points oer game.
Miles and Suarez are also one of only three duos nationwide averaging at least 17 points and six rebounds per game.
TCU ranks second only to Richmond in total 3-pointers over the last three seasons with 834. The Horned Frogs are on pace to become only the eighth program in NCAA history to knock down 1,000 threes in a three-season span.
The Frogs and Spiders are the only programs ranking in the top-five nationally in 3-point field goals (2nd, 839), 3-point field goals per game (5th, 9.5) and 3-point percentage (5th, .371) since 2023-24.
TCU has knocked down at least nine 3-pointers in three straight games and 12 times overall this season. The Frogs are 48-6 since 2023-24 when connecting at least nine times from distance.
TCU ranks seventh in the country in assists per game (20.6).
Miles and/or Scherr have finished with at least six assists in 15 games.
At least two Frogs have netted five-or-more assists in eight of TCU's 16 victories.
Scherr and Hunter sport respective assist-to-turnover ratios of 3.73 and 2.87. They rank fourth and 15th in the metric among all D1 players and make TCU the nation's sole D1 team with two of the nation's top-15 performers in the metric. Combined with Miles, who's season assist-to-turnover ration stands at 2.17, TCU is the only team in the country with three players boasting assist-to-turnover ratios of at least 2-1.
TCU ranks fifth in the country in scoring margin (+32.2). All-but-one of the Horned Frogs' wins have been by double figures.
The Horned Frogs have led at halftime in 42 of their last 44 ballgames and in 26 straight vs. Big 12 foes. Both of TCU's halftime leads over WVU last season were by at least 15 points.

Olivia Miles

In conference play, has increased her respective scoring and rebounding averages to 22.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
On pace to become the first men's or women's player in NCAA history to average at least 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals per game.
Has scored 20-plus in five of her last six outings.
Has finished with at lest 15-points, five rebounds and five assists all-but-once this season; ranks seventh in NCAA history for career 15-5-5 games (35).
Leads all active D1 players in career assist per game average (6.6), triple-doubles (10) and 15-point, five-assist games (45) and leads all guards in double-doubles (31).
Ranks fourth and fifth, respectively, in the country in assists per game (7.6) and total assists (130).
One of only three players in college basketball ranking in the top 25 in assists per game (4th, 7.6) and points per game (24th, 19.5). The others are Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo and Florida's Liv McGill.

Marta Suarez

Is the only player in college basketball averaging at least 17 points, six rebounds and two assists per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.
Her 41 threes are the most of any D1 player at least 6-3.

Clara Silva

Posted her fourth double-double of the season vs. ASU; netted 12 rebounds and 10 points.
Has averaged a career-best 12.2 points and nine rebounds per game since the start of league play.
Ranks in the top-five in the Big 12 in field goal percentage (2nd, .650), blocks per game (4th, 1.8) and rebounds per game (4th, 8.1).

Maddie Scherr
