
Dykes Picks Up 100th Career Win, TCU Defeats ACU 42-21

Hoover posts career-high passer rating
FORT WORTH – Quarterback Josh Hoover had another gem of a performance, posting a career-high passer rating of 231.5 with four touchdowns, to lead TCU to a 42-21 victory over Abilene Christian on Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
The victory gave head coach Sonny Dykes his 100th career win in front of an announced purple-clad crowd of 48,094, the second-largest home opener crowd in the program's history.
TCU (2-0) starting offensive scored on its first six offensive possessions to take a commanding 35-6 lead, before the backup units allowed the Wildcats to close the gap.
Five different TCU players found the end zone, with Ed Small, Jordan Dwyer, Chase Curtis, Trent Battle and Jon Denman.
Defensively, Namdi Obiazor led the Frogs with nine tackles and a sack. TCU kept ACU (1-2) off the board in the first half, taking a 28-0 lead into the break.
TCU started the game strong, marching right down the field to take a 7-0 lead. The Frogs quickly forced an ACU punt and then found the end zone shortly after again to open up a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The home team didn't waste much time in the second quarter, finding the end zone less than two minutes in to continue the commanding start. For the second time of the game, freshman wideout Small caught a touchdown pass from Hoover and the Frogs extend their lead to 28-0 headed into the locker room.
In the third, TCU would add another score and Abilene Christian would get on the board for the first time of the evening. Denman found the end zone for the first time in his career on the first play of the fourth to extend the lead.
ACU would add two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cement the final score.
Noting the Frogs
TCU has won 22 of its last 24 home openers and are 3-1 under Sonny Dykes (since 2022)... TCU moves to 3-0 all-time against Abilene Christian... TCU has now scored in 409 consecutive games, the second longest streak in NCAA history - trailing only Florida (464)... Ed Small recorded his first catch and his first two touchdown receptions.
