Barroso Sá begins play on Friday at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa
FORT WORTH – Sofia Barroso Sá will take her shot at the biggest names in college women's golf.
Barroso Sá is set to begin play at the NCAA National Championships on Friday at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Teams and individuals will engage in 54 holes of stroke play from Friday-Sunday. From there, the top-15 teams and nine highest-placing individuals on non-advancing teams play a final round on Monday to crown a 72-hole NCAA Individual Champion.
Barroso Sá qualified as an individual after placing fourth outright at the NCAA Lexington Regional on May 7, shooting a six-under 210 at Keene Trace Golf Club. TCU, tabbed 16th in the latest Scoreboard rankings, finished sixth and missed out on advancing as a team by one stroke.
The junior is making her second career NCAA National Championships appearance. She competed at the flagship event her freshman season in 2023 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. TCU placed 20th as a team but Barroso Sá advanced to individual play, where she tied for 37th with a score of two-over 290.
Barroso Sá looks to be in peak form ahead of her visit to southern California. She has finished even-or-under par in five of her last seven rounds and is coming off back-to-back top-10's in Regionals as well as the Big 12 Championship. Barroso Sá led the NCAA Lexington Regional field in birdies with 16. She preceded the performance by tying for 10th at the conference tournament on April 17 at The Clubs at Houston Oaks. Barroso Sá scored par-or-better on a tournament-best 46-of-54 holes and finished five-over (218).
From Belmonte, Portugal, Barroso Sá has been the model of consistency since arriving in Fort Worth in the fall of 2022. This season, Barroso Sá led TCU in top-10's (five), top-20's (nine), par-or-better rounds (19) and birdies (111) and tied for the team-high in counters (32). She enters Nationals with a career scoring average of 72.5 and has posted a sub-73 average for two straight years. Barroso Sá has earned the starting nod in every tournament over her three-year run as a Frog.
Barroso Sá is quickly closing in on several individual career records. Her career scoring average is the second-best mark of any player in program history. She ranks third in par-or-better rounds (43) and fourth in birdies (295) and sub-70's (14).
