Angosta, Swathwood Primed for U.S. Amateur Championship

FORT WORTH – Two TCU upperclassmen will soon tee it up in a showcase of the sport's aspiring professionals.
Kirstin Angosta and Claire Swathwood qualified for the 126th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, held from Aug. 4-9 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee.
Angosta, a rising senior, is making her second career start. She qualified for the 2025 U.S. Amateur.
Swathwood, a soon-to-be junior who transferred to TCU in June, will make her event debut.
The U.S. Amateur, tantamount with the British Women's Amateur Championship, is regarded as the highest honor in amateur golf. It is the oldest championship organized by the United States Golf Association. The winner is exempt into four-of-five LPGA major championships in 2027, including the U.S. Open, as well as the 2027 Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Angosta won her qualifier at nearby Trophy Club CC on June 15, signing for a five-under 67.
Swathwood medaled at the Indiana Women's Amateur Championship on July 16 to secure her exemption to the U.S. Amateur. She finished four strokes under par (212) for a one-shot victory. Swathwood scored par-or-better on a tournament-leading 48 holes.
Angosta's performance put a bow on a breakthrough spring. The Las Vegas native posted a 70.9 scoring average across her final five starts for TCU in the 2025-26 campaign. She finished as the outright runner-up at the NCAA Waco Regional and went on to tie for eighth and garner All-Tournament honors at the NCAA National Championship in May. Preceding the postseason run was the Big 12 Championship, which saw Angosta post a top-10 finish and earn another All-Tournament team nod. Angosta carded a 67 (-5) in round two, good for the third-lowest score by any golfer in the 30-year history of the event.
She is one of the top returning players in the Big 12. She concluded her junior season with the No. 87 year-end national ranking and has ascended as high as 55th in the Scoreboard collegiate rankings. Angosta ranks fifth in program history in career scoring average (73.23) and career par-or-better rounds (34).
Swathwood projects to compete for a spot in the Horned Frogs' lineup in 2026-27. Swathwood played her first two seasons at Memphis. From Carmel, Indiana, Swathwood tallied three sub-70's and 10 par-or-better rounds while starting 21 tournaments for the Tigers. She played the No. 1 in Memphis' lineup in seven-of-10 events last season.
The U.S. Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play qualification. From there, the low 64 scores in the 156-player field advance to match play. The championship match is a 36-hole affair. NBC Golf Channel will provide live coverage of all four days of match play in dedicated three-hour programming blocks.
