Horned Frogs set for two-day meet at Baylor
WACO, Texas – TCU track and field travels down I-35 into Big 12 territory for the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor on April 18-19 at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
Competing alongside the Horned Frogs this weekend is Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas State and UNT among others.
With only three meets remaining before the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, the TCU women are ranked No. 9 in the USTFCCCA National Track & Field Rating Index. Additionally, they boast five top 25 event squads, including the No. 2 ranked 100m dash, No. 4 javelin and No. 5 400m hurdles groups.
Individually, TCU's women have nine top 25 marks nationally so far this outdoor season. Freshman sprinter Indya Mayberry owns the national lead in the 100m dash (10.91) and was a key member of the Frogs' 4x100m relay (42.87) that ranks No. 1 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the world this year. Hurdler Amelliah Birdow also owns a top 10 time in the country in the 400m hurdles, ranking No. 8 (56.17), and the TCU's 4x400m relay ranks No. 10 (3:30.87).
The men own four top 25 marks in the NCAA, led by senior middle distance runner Lloyd Frilot and freshman javelin thrower Preston Kuznof. Last time out, Frilot cruised to a second-place finish in the 800m with the No. 5 time in school history and No. 8 in the nation this season. At the TCU Alumni Invitational, Kuznof made the most of his first collegiate throw, breaking the TCU school record and winning the event. He ranks ninth in the nation with a mark of 75.10m.
Last weekend, TCU saw success on the track and in field events at the 44 Farms Team Invitational. As a team, the Frogs won a pair of events and posted eight top 10 times/marks in school history. Johnson Lagat (1500m) and Irene Jepkemboi (javelin) each led the way, finishing first in their respective events with personal bests.
