Van Lith Named Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Year; Campbell crowned Coach of the Year
FORT WORTH – TCU padded the greatest basketball season in school history with a historic all-conference awards haul.
Hailey Van Lith swept Big 12 Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year accolades while Mark Campbell was tabbed Coach of the Year.
TCU also placed a league-leading three players on the All-Big 12 First Team; Van Lith, Sedona Prince and Madison Conner. Van Lith and Prince were two of four unanimous honorees.
Prince rounded out TCU's postseason all-conference accolades roundup with a unanimous nod to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team.
Awards were finalized following a vote of the league's 16 head coaches, who could not select their own players or themselves.
Van Lith is the first player in the conference's 28-year history to win Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in the same season. She became TCU's first conference player of the year in any league since Helena Sverrisdóttir claimed the crown in the Mountain West in 2010. Van Lith is one of four players in program history to be named conference player of the year alongside Sandora Irvin (2005, Conference USA) Adrianne Ross (2007, Mountain West) and Sverrisdóttir.
A product of Wenatchee, Wash., Van Lith averaged 17.6 points, 5.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds over the course of No. 8 TCU's run to its first undisputed Big 12 Championship. Van Lith was the only player in the league to finish in the top 10 in points per game (sixth), assists per game (fourth) and assist-to-turnover ratio (10th, 2.0). Ahead of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, Van Lith is one of only 11 players in the country with a 2-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and at least 165 assists to her name.
She was at her best vs. ranked opposition, averaging 19.3 points per night in leading TCU to a 6-2 record opposite the AP Top 25. Van Lith has finished with 15 points and five assists in three games at the expense of ranked teams, the second-most of any D1 player.
Campbell has orchestrated the greatest turnaround in college basketball. With Sunday's 51-48 triumph over No. 17 Baylor, TCU became one of only two teams in conference history to win an undisputed Big 12 Championship within two years of finishing in last place. Campbell became the first Big 12 head coach to capture a league championship in his/her first two seasons in the conference. TCU's jump of 10 regular season conference victories from last season (six) to this season (16) is the largest in Division I basketball.
Through Campbell's leadership, TCU has notched the largest combined year-over-year win improvement of any Power Conference head coach over the last two seasons at 20 games. On Monday, Campbell's squad achieved the highest AP Top 25 ranking in TCU basketball history. Along the way in 2024-25, TCU has set program records for total wins and Big 12 victories and finished undefeated at home (19-0) in the regular season.
Campbell is the first Big 12 head coach to be honored as Coach of the Year within two years of joining the conference. He joined TCU all-time wins leader Jeff Mittie as one of only two coaches in program history to receive a conference coach of the year accolade.
Prince and Conner are now two-time All-Big 12 players.
Prince has been arguably the top rim protector in America. She led the league and ranks third nationally in shot-blocking (93 blocks, 3.1 bpg). Prince has finished with three-plus blocks in 16 games, the third-most of any D1 player.
The Liberty Hill, Texas native is one of only two Division I players averaging at least 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game. She tallied 13 double-doubles, including a conference-leading nine in Big 12 action.
Prince became one of 10 active D1 players to record at least 1,400 career points, 700 rebounds and 200 blocks in TCU's championship-clinching victory over Baylor.
Conner has been the best shooter in college basketball. She leads the nation in 3-pointers (108) and is second in 3-pointers per game (3.5) ahead of TCU's trek to Kansas City. Conner, from Chandler, Ariz., is on track to become only the third Big 12 player to finish as the D1 leader in 3-pointers at season's end.
The 5-11 guard connected at a 45 percent clip 56-124) in league play. She broke her own program record for most 3-pointers in a season and became the all-time leader for career 30-point games (five) in the history of TCU men's and women's basketball. Conner leads the nation in games with at least four 3-pointers (17).
TCU enters the Big 12 Championship as the No. 1 seed and in possession of a double bye into the quarterfinals. The Horned Frogs take the court at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and face No. 8 seed Arizona, No. 9 Colorado or No. 16 Houston depending on results from the opening rounds.
