Tomi Main went 2-0 on the day and clinched the match against her former team.
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's tennis team defeated the No. 14 Texas Tech Red Raiders, 4-2, on Friday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
LEE'S THOUGHTS
"It was a great win for our program today that took a total team effort. I felt like this has been building all week, starting with the match against UCF." Head Coach Lee Walker said. "We took that loss hard because we knew we were in position to win. But even though we lost, we left Orlando feeling confident about this opportunity against Texas Tech.
"Jade and Isa came out locked in with a dominant doubles win over a very good team, and then Raquel and Tomi closed it out for a huge point for us. Tech is a great doubles team and that point really set the tone for us. Singles performances by Raquel and Jade were really solid, but the story of the day really is all about Tomi Main. She's been through a lot during her whole career, and for her to get the clinch in front of her parents who just flew in this afternoon, meant so much for our entire coaching staff. It was a great bounce back win today and sets us up to remain in contention for the BIG 12 regular season title which we all believe we are capable of attaining. One match at a time... a good Colorado team up next. Time to recover tomorrow and get ready for them."
THE RUNDOWN
The match started in doubles, where No. 23 Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual took court one for the Horned Frogs with a win over the number five ranked duo in the nation, Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova. After the Red Raiders won on court three, it was Tomi Main and Raquel Caballero won won the doubles point for the Frogs, with a 6-4 win on court two.
In singles, it was Texas Tech who got off to a hot start, taking court six to tie the match at one apiece. However, Raquel Caballero took down Mariia Hlahola on court two to give the Frogs the lead back. After the Red Raiders tied the match up again after a win on court four, Jade Otway took court one in a 7-6(5), 7-5 thriller on court one.
With the Horned Frogs up 3-2, it was only Isabel Pascual and Tomi Main left on the court for TCU. After losing the first set, it was the former Red Raider Tomi Main who clinched the match for the Frogs. Following a 4-6 loss in the first set, Main completed the reverse sweep winning the final two sets 6-4, 6-2 to give the Frogs the victory.
