TCU improves to 5-1 in Big 12 play
FORT WORTH - The TCU women's tennis team swept Colorado, 4-0 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Horned Frogs improved to 10-4 on the year and 5-1 in Big 12 play.
Lee's Thoughts
"Really proud of the resilience today by the whole team. It's very common that after a big win you can have a let down. We talked about it before the match and I feel like we entered the match with the same level of intensity that we did against Texas Tech. The doubles point was huge and I think our players committing to being more vocal than them from the start is what gave us such a big lead out of the gates, and then Jade and Isa closed it out with great composure like they have so many times this year. Lot of credit to Colorado for not backing down and coming out and taking 5 first sets. I didn't expect that to be honest and it put us in a tough spot. But all the credit goes to players who didn't blink. They just reset and went back to work and got a hard fought win. I'm confident that we would've won the remaining matches left unfinished, which also is great for our team. We have a very good Tulsa team on Tuesday that we need to recover and get ready for."
The Rundown
TCU earned the doubles point as the Frogs won on courts one and two. Yu-Chin Tsai and Helena Narmont were the first pair to finish as they defeated Lera Alexin and Mila Stanojevic, 6-1. The win marked the pair's fourth win of the year. The No. 23 pair of Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual clinched the doubles point for the Frogs winning on court one, 6-4 over Anya Nelson and Rixt van der Werff.
The start of singles saw the Frogs fall in five of the first six sets. The Frogs battled back and took the next five sets while one set was in tiebreaker as the match concluded.
Otway won in three sets after a fast start in the first set winning 6-3, Otway would fall in the second, 0-6 before rolling in the third set, 6-1 over Mila Stanojevic to claim her third win in 2025.
Pascual put the Frogs up 3-0 as she won in three sets over Betina Tokac. Tokac won the first set, 6-4 but after that it was all Pascual winning the next two sets, 6-0, 6-3. She improved to 6-3 on the year and 4-2 on court three.
Tsai clinched the match for the Frogs with her win on four over Pai Rebec. Tsai fell in the first set, 4-6 but would control the next two sets, winning 6-3, 6-2.
As the match concluded, Raquel Caballero and Maya Drozd both had leads in the final set. Caballero lead 5-2 in the third while Drozd led 5-4 with a deciding match point on six.
