
No. 11 TCU Flashes Depth in 79-47 Triumph Over BYU

FORT WORTH – No. 11 TCU rode its full rotation past BYU and to a 79-47 victory on Tuesday at Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs outscored the Cougars 41-17 in the second half and held their guests to four points in the final frame. TCU benefitted from 29 bench points – its second most in a game all season – and connected 10 times from distance.
All 10 players who entered for TCU put points on the board, including nine in the first half. No Horned Frog played more than 25 minutes.
TCU (23-3, 11-2 Big 12) is now the co-conference leader in the Big 12 alongside No. 25 Baylor with five regular season games remaining. The Frogs currently hold the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Championship by virtue of their 80-75 victory vs. the Bears on Jan. 26.
Four players scored in double figures for TCU for the 10th time this season.
Madison Conner drilled a quartet of 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points.
Sedona Prince paired 13 points with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Hailey Van Lith netted nine of her 11 points in the second half while Agnes Emma-Nnopu contributed 10. Both guards shot 4-8 from the field.
Conner and Emma-Nnopu sent TCU to a 17-7 edge at the 5:26 mark of the opening period via consecutive 3-pointers. The Cougars (12-12, 3-10 Big 12), though, shot 8-16 from the floor in the first quarter and got within a possession of TCU at 23-21 with 8:06 to go before the intermission.
The Horned Frogs missed their first three field goal attempts to begin the second quarter, prompting head coach Mark Campbell to whistle for time. TCU rotated in five bench players following the pause in the action and sat three of five starters for the remainder of the half.
Deasia Merrill stretched the lead to 29-22 off a pair of midrange jumpers. TCU then rattled off a 9-0 run spanning 1:46 and widened its advantage to 38-26 with less than two minutes to go. Natalie Mazurek started the spurt with a free throw and delivered the capper via a transition three from the left key.
BYU connected at 25 percent clip (10-39) over the final three quarters.
A trio of 3-pointers from Van Lith, Conner and Una Jovanovic late in the third put TCU up 19 at 62-43 entering the fourth. The Horned Frogs outscored BYU 18-2 over the final 8:43 of the ballgame, holding the Cougars to one field goal.
Merrill turned in nine points – her most in a Big 12 game – and seven rebounds across 14 minutes. She shot 4-4 from the field.
Mazurek saw her first game action since Dec. 29 in TCU's 79-47 win over Brown.
Jovanovic finished with season-highs in points (seven), assists (six) and rebounds (four). She and Donovyn Hunter tied for the game high in assists.
TCU outrebounded BYU 43-31. The Horned Frogs collected 23 assists, with four players dishing out at four-or-more.
