No. 8 TCU hosts Miners in collision of undefeated teams

FORT WORTH – Schollmaier Arena will host a battle of the unbeatens on Saturday when No. 8 TCU welcomes UTEP to Walsh Family Court for a 1 p.m. tip.

The Horned Frogs (9-0) and Miners (7-0) are two of 19 remaining undefeated teams across the Division I ranks.

TCU has won 40 straight nonleague affairs at home.

Saturday's ballgame will be UTEP's first tilt opposite a Power Conference team.

TCU's 30-game home winning streak is the second-longest in college basketball.
Dating back to TCU's 63-42 win vs. Texas Tech on Feb. 19, 17 of the Frogs' last 22 wins have been by double figures, including all 11 home games in that span.
The Horned Frogs and Miners are two of 19 remaining unbeaten teams in Division I.
UTEP and TCU are two of the top rebounding teams in college basketball. The Miners are sixth nationally in rebounds per game (47.9) while TCU ranks 20th (44.6 rpg).
TCU and UTEP are squaring off for the second time in three years. The Frogs pitched an 85-56 defeat of the Miners on Nov. 23, 2023 in the programs' most recent collision. The game took place on Thanksgiving Day and was a part of the St. Pete Showcase.
TCU's last two wins over the Miners have both been by more than 20 points.
TCU has won seven of its last 10 ballgames vs. UTEP and is 9-7 all-time vs. the Miners.

Frog Focus

Nine games into the 2025-26 campaign, TCU is the only team in college basketball scoring at least 85 points per game while allowing less than 50.
The Horned Frogs additionally are joined by South Carolina, LSU, Michigan and Iowa as one of five teams shooting it better than 48 percent from the field while holding opponents below a 33 percent clip.
TCU's Marta Suarez, Olivia Miles and Donovyn Hunter are the nation's third highest-scoring trio. They collectively are averaging 51.9 points per game. Only Western Illinois and Murray State have a higher-scoring trifecta than TCU.
Suarez (19.2 ppg), Miles (18 ppg) and Hunter (14.7 ppg) are one of only five threesomes all averaging at least 14.5 points per game.
The TCU teammate trio has combined to score 50-plus in seven of TCU's nine wins. All three players have reached double figures eight times.
Hunter and Suarez boast respective 3-point percentages of .439 and .418. They make TCU one of only four teams with two players shooting it better than 40 percent from distance with at least 20 threes to their names.
Moreover, Suarez and Miles are the highest-scoring duo in the Big 12. Alongside TCU, only Cincinnati has a pair of teammates who both average at least 15 points per outing.
TCU leads college basketball in field goal percentage defense (.301).
No opponent this season has shot better than 36 percent from the field or behind the arc vs. the Horned Frogs' defense in any game.
The Frogs top the Big 12 and rank fourth nationally in points allowed per game (49.6).
Under Mark Campbell, TCU has held 86 percent of its opponents (65-78) under their season scoring average, including its last eight foes.
TCU finished with seven-plus blocks for the sixth time in nine tries on Wednesday vs. UIW. The Frogs have recorded at least seven rejections in 33 games since 2023-24. Only South Carolina (43) and USC (33) have more seven-block performances in that span.
Kennedy Basham (2.2 bpg) and Clara Silva (1.8 bpg) combine to make TCU one of only five teams in the nation with two players averaging at least 1.6 blocks per game.
The Frogs have drained an NCAA-leading 759 threes since 2023-24.
TCU is one of only two programs alongside Richmond ranking in the top-10 nationally in 3-point field goals (1st, 759), 3-point field goals per game (4th, 9.5) and 3-point percentage (5th, .372) since 2023-24.
TCU has reached double figures in deep balls in 51 percent of its home games (24-47) since 2023-24.
Since Campbell took over as head coach in March of 2023, the Horned Frogs have benefited from an individual three 3-pointer game on an NCAA-leading 100 occasions.
All three members of TCU's starting backcourt possess career assist-to-turnover ratios of
1.5-or-better; Donovyn Hunter (2.18) Olivia Miles (2.05) and Maddie Scherr (1.59).
TCU has dished out at least 20 assists in all six of its home wins.
TCU has recorded at least 20 assists in 32 games under Campbell, tied for the eighth-most of any team nationwide since 2023.
The Horned Frogs have benefitted from a 20-point scorer in seven of their nine wins.
TCU has finished with the edge on the boards and in points in the paint in every game this season.

Individual Notables
Olivia Miles

Miles broke the NCAA record for consecutive games with at least 15 points and five assists by a Power Four conference player to begin a season in Wednesday's win. She has posted a 15-and-5 game in all nine of TCU's wins, surpassing Kristi Toliver of Maryland's run of eight straight in 2007-08.
The New Jersey native leads all active D1 players in career 15-point, five-assist games with 39. The next-closest player is Texas A&M's Ny'Ceara Pryor (34).
Miles is the only player in college basketball averaging at least 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds per game.
Miles ranks second nationally in career assists (711).
Miles is the active D1 leader in career assists per game average (6.5) and triple doubles (six). She is also the lone D1 player with at least 25 career double-doubles and five triple-doubles.
Miles is connecting at a 57 percent clip (34-60) from the floor in home games.

Marta Suarez

Suarez is one of only two players 6-3-or-taller to score 15-plus on eight occasions this season. The other is Iowa State's Audi Crooks.
Over her last six games, Suarez is averaging 21.5 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while connecting at a 57 percent clip from the field (52-92) and 45 percent from distance (20-44).
Suarez is the only player in college basketball averaging at least 19 points, five rebounds and two assists per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from distance.
Suarez has finished as TCU's leading scorer on a team-high six occasions.
Suarez ranks fourth in all of Division I in scoring average among players 6-3 or taller.
Suarez is the only men's or women's player who has competed in four Power Conferences when including the Pac-12. She played in both the Pac-12 and ACC at Cal and spent two years in the SEC with Tennessee.

Donovyn Hunter

Along with Suarez, Hunter is one of only eight players in the nation averaging at least 13 points and 2.5 threes per game while connecting above a 50 percent clip from the field and 40 percent from deep.
Hunter has scored in double figures in all nine games for the Frogs. Prior to this season, she had notched 11 games with at least 10 points in her career.
Hunter is averaging 16.1 points per game at home over her last seven outings at Schollmaier Arena.
TCU's lone junior, Hunter leads TCU in 3-pointers (25) and 3-point percentage (.439). Last season, Hunter made 32 threes and shot it 34 percent from distance.
Hunter permanently returned to TCU's starting lineup on Feb. 19 at Arizona State and has since earned 20 straight starting nods. Since then, Hunter has doubled her scoring average. She is tallying 11 points per game in that span, compared to 5.2 per game before rejoining TCU's starting five.

Maddie Scherr

The 5-10 graduate leads the Big 12 and ranks second among all Division I players in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.3). The only player with a better assist-to-turnover ratio is UConn's Sarah Strong (4.6).
Scherr has posted an assist-to-turnover ratio of 7.33 over TCU's last five victories, dishing out 22 dimes against just three giveaways.
Scherr finished with a TCU career-high eight assists on Wednesday vs. Incarnate Word. She turned it over just once and racked up five assists over the first 12 minutes of the ballgame.
Scherr is averaging five assists per game inside Schollmaier Arena. Only Olivia Miles (7.7 apg) has a better assist per game average at home among TCU players.
Scherr has 22 career 5-5-5 games to her name.

Clara Silva

Silva has pulled down at least eight rebounds in all-but-two games.
Silva ranks in the top-10 in the Big 12 in both blocks per game (4th, 1.8) and blocks per game (6th, 7.7).
The 6-7 center is of 16 players nationally averaging at least 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Named Best Defensive Player at the FIBA U19 World Cup in July.

Kennedy Basham

Basham ranks second in the Big 12 and 17th nationally in blocks per game (2.2).
Basham has sent back at least three shots in three of TCU's last five games.
The 6-7 center ranks sixth and seventh, respectively, among all active players in career blocks (172) and career blocks per game average (1.98).

TCU led by as many as 31 points in its 85-56 Turkey Day win over UTEP in 2023. The Horned Frogs shot 51 percent from the field and drilled 10 threes in the win.
Madison Conner netted a game-high 28 points in TCU's 2023 triumph over UTEP. She was 8-8 from the field and scored 19 points in the second half.
Sedona Prince (19 points) and Una Jovanovic (15 points) gave TCU three double-digit scorers last time out vs. the Miners.
UTEP's most recent win over the Horned Frogs, a 79-71 triumph on March 24, 2016, was a WNIT Super 16 matchup.
TCU went 6-2 vs. UTEP during their shared tours of duty in the WAC.
The first time TCU and UTEP's paths crossed on the hardwood was on Dec. 9, 1978, in just TCU's second season of existence.
