Frogs take down No. 1 for the first time since 2023
FORT WORTH – With the meet on the line, TCU junior Lilly Goldstein was clutch, scoring an 88 to claim her point and give the No. 7 TCU equestrian team a marquee victory over top-ranked Georgia, 10-8, on Friday at KSM Bear Creek Farms in Burleson.
This was the second meet this season for the Horned Frogs (3-3, 2-1 Big 12) that came down to the final ride. In mid-October, TCU fell to Fresno State on the final ride. This time, the Frogs would not be denied.
Earning MOP honors for TCU were Goldstein, Calla Thomas and Lannie-Jo Lisac, while the Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0 SEC) claimed the Fences MOP.
The meet was neck and neck the entire day, with TCU and Georgia splitting Reining. The Frogs would be able to earn a narrow 3-2 victory in Fences to have a narrow lead entering the break.
TCU would claim three more points in Horsemanship, to bring it down to the Flat. The Flat had its dramatics culminating in Goldstein's meet-winning ride to send the Frogs to the winter break on a high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first event of the day, the two teams exchanged blows and ended Reining in a 2-2 tie. Georgia was able to earn the first two wins of the event, but Calla Thomas and Lisac fought back with wins to bring it even.
Following a pair of re-rides, one for Georgia and one for TCU, Fences was also hotly contested with the Frogs coming on top 3-2. Winning rides for the Horned Frogs were by Goldstein, Lily Muzzy and Jordyn Scelsa.
Horsemanship got the Frogs closer to victory, as TCU earned three points to need just two as they turned to the Flat. Piper Keller, Tatum Keller and Thomas all earned victories for the home team.
On the Flat, Georgia took three of the first four points, with only Lex Lipacis earning one for TCU. However, on the last ride, Goldstein's 88 was good enough for a point for the Frogs and that secured the win.
