Events are the last chances for players to qualify for NCAA Championships
FORT WORTH – TCU will take its last hacks at qualifying more players for the NCAA Individual Championships in a penultimate pair of fall tournaments.
As many as three Horned Frogs will be in action at the ITA Central Sectional Championships from Thursday-Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Albert Pedrico and Cosme Rolland De Ravel will play singles and doubles. They are TCU's highest-ranked players in both disciplines. Pedrico was tabbed No. 77 in the preseason ITA singles rankings while Rolland De Ravel debuted at No. 81. Together, they earned the preseason No. 4 doubles billing.
Julian Alonso is also making the trip north. Alonso is first on the alternates list for singles.
Overlapping with ITA Sectionals is the ITA Conference Masters Championships, where Roger Pascual will represent the Big 12 in singles play.
The ITA Conference Masters Championships is in its second year of existence, having replaced the ITA National Fall Championships. Each Division I conference designates one singles player and one doubles team to participate in the event, held at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
The events are the final chances for players to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships, which run from Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Fla.
All four singles semifinalists at the ITA Conference Masters Championships are automatic NCAA qualifiers.
A total of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams comprise the ITA Central Sectional Championships field. From the tournament, six singles players (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners) and three doubles teams (finalists, third place) advance to the NCAA Championships. The Central section encompasses the ITA Central, Midwest and Texas regions.
