Horned Frogs received 10-of-16 first place votes
FORT WORTH – For the first time in the history of the Big 12 Conference, TCU will take the court as the favorite to cut down the conference championship nets.
TCU was picked first in the Big 12 Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the league office.
In addition to the poll results, Olivia Miles was named the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year and was unanimously voted onto the Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
TCU received 10 of a possible 16 first place votes and 219 total points. Iowa State (202 points), Baylor (200 points) and Oklahoma State (186 points) each received two first place votes.
Head coaches could not vote for their team or players.
TCU swept the Big 12 regular season and tournament championships in 2024-25 and is aiming to become the league's first repeat champion within three years of finishing in last place. Led by head coach Mark Campbell, the Horned Frogs lead college basketball in combined year-over win differential over the last two seasons at 26 games. TCU's remarkable rise culminated in a 16-2 conference record last season after finishing 1-17 in 2023 prior to Campbell's arrival.
Notably, in Campbell's four seasons as a head coach, his teams have all met or outperformed their preseason conference projections. TCU was projected to finish fourth in the Big 12 Preseason Coaches' Poll in 2024 and went on to win the undisputed regular season title.
TCU has now produced the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year in consecutive seasons with Miles' coronation. Hailey Van Lith was tabbed Co-Newcomer of the Year in 2024. She became the first player in league history to be named Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in the same season.
For the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, Miles was one of six unanimous selections. The others were Audi Crooks (Iowa State), Delaney Gibb (BYU), Stailee Heard (OSU), Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Baylor) and S'Mya Nichols (Kansas).
Miles is the fifth Horned Frog to receive Preseason All-Big 12 Team recognition alongside Zahna Medley, Amy Okonkwo, Lauren Heard and Van Lith.
The 5-10 graduate student enters her final collegiate season as the nation's most accomplished point guard. She is the active D1 leader in career assists per game average (6.5), career assists (654) and triple doubles (six). Miles is also the lone returning D1 player who has tallied at least 1,400 career points, 600 assists and 600 rebounds, 25 double-doubles and five triple-doubles.
Miles' honors are giving déjà vu as it pertains to Campbell's track record with transfer point guards. Campbell has coached the conference player of the year in three of his four seasons as a head coach, and all three winners have been one-and-done imports at the position. All three players have averaged better than 17 points and five assists per game in Campbell's system.
TCU returns five players from a 2024-25 squad that won a school record 34 games, notched the university's first NCAA Elite Eight berth and finished No. 6 in the final Associated Press poll. Including Miles, five players on the Frogs' 2025-26 roster have made at least 50 career starts.
The Horned Frogs lead college basketball in returning 3-point offense for the second straight season. Among qualified players, TCU's roster averaged 11.4 threes per game in 2024-25.
TCU commences the 2025-26 campaign with three straight home games, beginning with a Nov. 6 tilt vs. North Carolina A&T. The Frogs host Kansas State on Dec. 20 to kick off conference play.
