Junior finished unbeaten in singles play and 5-1 overall
TORREON, Mexico – Filip Apltauer and Kaj Quirijns tacked on seven victories to TCU's cumulative fall tally on Friday and Saturday the U.S. College Cup Invitational in Torreon, Mexico.
The tournament featured hidden dual play between a contingent of players from fellow Lone Star State institutions Abilene Christian, Rice and UTSA.
Apltauer was named individual champion after finishing unbeaten in singles play and 5-1 overall. He did not surrender a set in singles play, defeating Rafael Botran (Rice), Enzo Vargas (UTSA) and Dennis Dutine (ACU).
Quirijns rolled to straight set triumphs over Timeo Bretin of UTSA and ACU's Ethan Scribner on Saturday. He downed Bretin via a 6-4, 6-1 margin and was even more efficient vs. Scribner, ousting the Wildcat senior 6-3, 6-1.
The junior duo teamed up for a pair of doubles victories vs. Dutine and Scribner and the UTSA tandem of Ben Chetewy Ungar and Vargas.
Apltauer improved to 10-3 overall this season. His 10 victories are the second-most of any TCU player. Quirijns is 32-21 in tournament play for his career.
Their efforts augmented TCU's combined record to 48-19 through three tournaments.
The U.S. College Cup Invitational was first organized by TCU head coach David Roditi in 2023 and has become an annual ITA-sanctioned fall event. The tournament gives younger or developing players an opportunity to play multiple matches across both disciplines while increasing the presence of and interest in college tennis internationally.
