STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 9 TCU let a 15-point lead slip away and suffered its first Big 12 loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Oklahoma State, 60-59, at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls reeled off an 18-2 run over the final six minutes of play to top the scoreboard for the first time since the opening possession of the ballgame. Trailing 60-56 with 20 seconds remaining, four missed free throws afforded the Horned Frogs a chance to sneak off with the win. A midrange jumper from Hailey Van Lith at the buzzer, though, clanged off the side iron.
TCU (19-2, 7-1 Big 12) held Oklahoma State to season-lows in points, assists (six) and 3-pointers (four) and led for 36:31. The Frogs took a 39-24 advantage into the locker room but subsequently converted just seven field goals in the second half. TCU shot 3-16 (18 percent) and did not record an assist in the final period.
The loss halted the Horned Frogs' 10-game winning streak ahead of a nationally televised bout vs. No. 25 Baylor (16-4, 6-1 Big 12) on Sunday in Schollmaier Arena.
Sedona Prince tallied a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds. She scored at least 20 points for the sixth consecutive outing, matching Sandora Irvin's school record 20-point strak in the process.
Prince had the double-double – her ninth of the 2024-25 campaign – locked up midway through the second quarter. She entered the intermission with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The 6-7 center's exploits were at the forefront of TCU's commanding first half lead over the Cowgirls (16-3, 6-2 Big 12). Prince and Madison Conner sparked a 12-2 run to begin the period that staked TCU to a 34-20 lead. The senior duo combined for 16 points in the quarter, with Prince accounting for 10.
TCU outrebounded Oklahoma State 25-14 in the first half. The Horned Frogs transformed 12 offensive rebounds – five from Prince- into f15 second chance points in the game's first 20 minutes. TCU ultimately finished with a 46-34 edge on the glass.
Agnes Emma-Nnopu snagged 11 boards while Van Lith (12 points) added eight.
Taylor Bigby drilled a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter, helping propel TCU to a 20-16 head start at the first horn. The fourth-year junior joined Prince and Van Lith in double figures with 11 points.
The Cowgirls' 24 first half points were their fewest in a game all season.
But TCU was unable to maintain its offensive groove in the second half in a contest that featured two teams who average 82 points and nine-plus 3-pointers per game.
The Horned Frogs went scoreless on their first four trips down the court and netted just three points over the first 5:40, a second-chance 3-pointer by Van Lith. A contested layup from the 2023 All-American restored the Frogs' 15 point lead, 44-29, with just over four minutes to go.
Oklahoma State halved the deficit to eight entering the fourth and scored 20 in the final period. The Cowgirls limited TCU to one made basket over the final 5:29 of the contest.
TCU connected at a season-low 33 percent clip (22-66) from the field.
The Cowgirls were led by 17 points from Stailee Heard, who drained a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:12 on the shot clock.
