Horned Frogs lead field by three strokes following round one; Angosta tied for first
Nicholasville, KY. – TCU is firmly in first on the team and individual leaderboards in the Ohio Valley.
The Horned Frogs are in first place at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational following round one at Champion Trace at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky., on Sunday.
TCU shot a seven-over 295 and is three strokes clear of Illinois and Louisville (+10) for the outright lead.
Kirstin Angosta is tied for first on the individual leaderboard at two-under (70). She played even-par golf over her first nine holes before birdying 13 and 18 to close out her round. Angosta, who prepped at nearby Coppell HS, is tied with Missouri's Fleur Van Beek ahead of Monday's second round. One of five underclassmen on TCU's roster, Angosta posted her sixth par-or-better round in eight collegiate tournaments.
TCU built an early advantage it never surrendered on the front nine, carding a tournament-best one-over 145.
Sofia Barroso Sá and Meagan Winans joined Angosta to give TCU three players even or under par and in the top-10 as the Frogs made the turn. Barroso Sá began her round with a birdie and was even across the ensuing eight holes. The junior was tied for second as she approached the 10th tee box. Winans and Angosta were gridlocked at ninth.
Winans and Sofie Dimitrova, who played as an individual, each concluded the first day of play tied for 12th at two-over (74). Winans bagged a team-best three birdies and leads the Frogs with 15 through four countable rounds.
Dimitrova parred 15 of 18 holes. The sophomore went up and down in two on a par-3 hole 15. Dimitrova's late round birdie catapulted her seven spots up the leaderboard.
Barroso Sá is knotted in a six-player deadlock for 19th (+3, 75). The opening hole birdie spiked her career tally to 194.
Freshmen Camille Min-Gaultier and Gracie McGovern are tied for 25th and 39th, respectively. Min-Gaultier finished four-over. McGovern is two strokes back of her classmate.
TCU has won 18 tournament championships under head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. The Horned Frogs most recent triumph came on Oct. 16, 2018, at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
