Horned Frogs sit in 10th place following day one of NCAA Waco Regional
WACO, Texas – A shaky start left TCU with work to do following day one of the NCAA Waco Regional, as the Horned Frogs finished 15 strokes over par on Monday at Ridgewood Country Club.
The Frogs sit in 10th place on the leaderboard, nine strokes back of Tulsa, who occupies the fifth and final spot for NCAA National Championships qualification.
Teeing off on the front nine, TCU picked up six strokes through the first half-dozen holes and found itself nine-over at the turn. The Horned Frogs were bogey-free on holes 17 and 18 to give themselves a pulse.
Kirstin Angosta leads the Horned Frogs at two-over after birdying her final two holes. She singed for a one-under 34 on the second nine and single-handedly shaved two strokes off TCU's collective scorecard. Angosta scored par or better from the 13th tee onward and is tied for 21st.
Sofie Dimitrova was a bright spot on a trying morning. Playing the No. 5 in the Horned Frogs' lineup, Dimitrova began her day with a birdie and followed with eight consecutive pars to enter the back side of Ridgewood tied for fourth at one-under. The junior finished T29 at three-over 73.
Camille-Min-Gaultier came in at four-over, Gracie McGovern at six-over and Sofia Barroso Sá at 10-over to round of the Frogs' five-player contingent.
SMU tops the 12-team leaderboard at three-under 277 and is the lone team in the field under par. Kiara Romero (Oregon), Vanessa Borovilos and Kyra Van Kan (Tennessee) share the individual lead at four-under 66.
TCU will tee off in Tuesday's second round starting at 8:50 a.m. on the 10th tee. The Horned Frogs are paired with Northern Arizona and Prairie View A&M.
