Has three years of eligibility remaining; went 16-10 in singles play in 2023-24
FORT WORTH – Fresh off its first NCAA Championship, TCU has landed one of the top transfer targets in the portal.
Filip Apltauer, who guided Tennessee to the No. 7 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament as a freshman, has signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Horned Frogs for the 2024-25 season.
Apltauer, whose last name is pronounced "apple-tower," has three years of eligibility remaining.
A native of Prague, Czech Republic, Apltauer notched 31 combined victories in his first collegiate season. Of his wins, 16 came in singles play, highlighted by a straight set triumph over No. 56 Jonah Braswell (Texas) in the NCAA quarterfinals. Apltauer split time on courts four, five and six throughout the dual season. In doubles, Apltauer anchored court three all spring for the Volunteers, producing a 12-9 record at the post.
Apltauer arrived on Rocky Top in possession of a career-high ITF singles ranking of No. 86. He bagged seven doubles championships – five of which came in 2022 – throughout his junior career.
This summer, Apltauer has advanced to the quarterfinals or farther in four M15 level events. He finished as the doubles runner-up at the M15 Gyula in May. Apltauer achieved a career-best ITA doibles ranking of No. 1082 in July and has peaked as high as No. 1439 in singles.
Apltauer is the first transfer player TCU has tabbed since signing All-American Juan Carlos Aguilar in 2021-22.
He is one of two newcomers on the Horned Frogs' 2024-25 roster, joining freshman Roger Pascual of Spain.
