FORT WORTH – TCU standouts Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno have qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games and will represent Team Spain this summer in Paris.
The duo rank No. 14 on the FIVB Provisional Olympic Ranking with 5,700 points. The highest 17 ranked teams on the Olympic Ranking at the end of the qualifying stage earn a berth to the Olympics.
The Olympic Ranking is established based on the FIVB Ranking Points earned at the eight best performances as a team in the 2023 FIVB Senior World Championships, ProTour (Elite16, Challenge, Future) and recognised Continental Tour Finals over a 365-day period.
Alvarez and Moreno are coming off one of the best performances of their career as they placed fourth overall at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Espinho Elite 16.
The duo kicked off the tournament with wins over Spain and the United States in the qualifying round. Alvarez and Moreno continued their strong weekend beating Italy, (2-1), Australia (2-1) and Brazil (2-0) to advance to the quarterfinals.
The pairing took fourth after defeating Chinese Olympians Chen Xue and Xinyi Xia 2-0 in the quarterfinals, earning 900 points to propel them to Paris.
No shortage of successful tournaments this year, Alvarez and Moreno earned bronze at the Challenge in Xiamen, China. The duo also ended 2023 with a second-place finish at the BPT Challenge Nuvali.
Alvarez and Moreno, who will return to TCU for the 2025 season, were the 2023 AVCA Pair of the Year. The pairing was named AVCA First Team All-Americans and earned AVCA Top Flight honors three consecutive seasons.

The back-to-back CCSA Pair of the Year duo also holds two other TCU program records: career wins as pairing at 88-16 (.846) and career ranked wins at 44-14 (.759) They achieved both records over the course of just three seasons.
