No. 2 Horned Frogs seek fourth National Title
FORT WORTH – The No. 2-ranked TCU women's rifle team, making its 18th straight appearance in the NCAA Championships, takes aim at its fourth National Championship crown.
The championships get underway from Morgantown, W. Va. Friday, March 8 with smallbore and concludes with air rifle on Saturday, March 9. Both days' events will take place at WVU Coliseum on the West Virginia campus.
Making their way to compete at the championships are Stephanie Allan, Stephanie Grundsoee, Jeanne Haverhill, Mikole Hogan and Katie Zaun.
TCU qualified for the championships in the No. 2 spot. Also competing for the title are Air Force, Alaska-Fairbanks, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Navy, Nebraska and West Virginia.
The Frogs finished second at last year's championships, making last season the fifth second-place finish for the program. TCU has finished in the top two at six of the last seven championships.
TCU has three national titles in program history. In 2010, the Horned Frogs became the first-ever all-female squad to take home the National Championship. They did so again in 2012 and 2019. In 2013, the squad took home their first-ever Smallbore National Championship. They added a smallbore title in 2019. The Frogs own four Air Rifle titles (2010, 2012, 2021 and 2022). Sarah Scherer is the only Horned Frog to take home an individual title, doing so in smallbore in 2010 and 2012.
The Horned Frogs currently lead the NCAA in air rifle average (2384.07) and sit No. 2 nationally in both smallbore (2349.85) and the aggregate (4733.92).
TCU's roster features two of the top individual shooters in the NCAA. Stephanie Grundsoee (1,188.54) is sitting second in the aggregate average, and Katie Zaun (1,188.17) ranks third on the season. Stephanie Allan is third on the squad with an aggregate average of 1,179.00.
The Frogs boast four of the top air rifle shooters in the country. Zaun is set nationally (597.33) followed by Grundsoee (3rd, 597.00). Haverhill sits 11th nationally (595.41) and Allan 12th with a season average of 595.35. Allan continues her reign as the only shooter in the NCAA to have fired a perfect 600 in air rifle.
Grundsoee (2nd, 591.53) and Zaun (3rd, 590.83) lead the Frogs in smallbore. Allan is averaging a 583.64 followed closely by Haverhill (583.00) and Hogan (582.85).
