Freshman notches lowest score among all Big 12 players at nine-under 207
HOUSTON – Like clockwork, TCU worked its way under-par and to its low round score on a tournament's final day.
The Horned Frogs shot a three-under 285 over the last 18 holes of The Chevron Collegiate on Tuesday at Golf Club of Houston.
TCU placed 13th at minus-one (863), ahead of No. 33 Oklahoma State, Indiana and Furman. The Horned Frogs entered the clubhouse two-under following Monday's opening round.
Tuesday's finale signified the fourth time in six tournaments TCU has finished below par in its final round in 2023-24.
TCU and seventh-place Iowa State were one of only two competing Big 12 teams to place two golfers in the top-25.
Kirstin Angosta was TCU and the Big 12's top performer. The freshman ascended 14 spots up the individual leaderboard on Tuesday from 20th into a tie for sixth place at nine-under 207. She was the lone Big 12 golfer to crack the top-10. Angosta set a career-best low-54 hole score with her showing in Space City.
Originally from Las Vegas, Angosta fired a four-under 68, bogeying just one hole in her final walk around the course. Angosta carded a team-leading 13 birdies and an eagle over the 54-hole affair. She notched a career low-round score on Monday, carding a 67 (five-under) in the opening round. Angosta, who prepped at Coppell HS, leads the team in birdies this spring with 21.
Lois Lau's love affair with the last round continued as well. TCU's lone senior, Lau fired a 71 (one-under) on Tuesday to finish tied for 25th at minus-four (212). Lau has finished under-par in the final 18 holes of five of TCU's tournaments this year.
She collected 11 birdies in Houston, increasing her career haul to 349. She is now nine away from surpassing Sabrina Iqbal as TCU's all-time leader.
Sofia Barroso Sa tied for 70th at plus-eight (224).
Meagan Winans finished two strokes back of Barroso Sa to tie for 80th. She played even-par golf on Tuesday.
Sophie Anand rounded out TCU's showing at plus-14 and tied for 86th.
