Horned Frogs travel to Las Vegas for midway point of spring season
FORT WORTH – 'Viva Las Frogs' is the operative expression for Monday and Tuesday, as the Horned Frogs are headed to Las Vegas to compete in The Show.
The 13-team, 54-hole event is co-hosted by UNLV and Furman at Spanish Trail Country Club.
TCU traveled six players to the Entertainment Capital of the World in Lois Lau, Sofia Barroso Sa, Kirstin Angosta, Sofie Dimitrova, Sheridan Clancy and Meagan Winans. One Horned Frog entrant will play as an individual.
The trip to Vegas marks TCU's first time participating in The Show, which was incepted in 2022. The tournament represents the midpoint of the Horned Frogs' spring season. TCU has two regular season events remaining before beginning postseason play at the Big 12 Championship, held from April 18-20 in Houston.
Competing for TCU
Few freshman players nationwide are as hot as Angosta, who did not see the course in any of TCU's four fall tournaments. She has since skyrocketed to No. 81 in the Scoreboard individual rankings behind a combined aggregate score of eight-under (425) over the Horned Frogs' first pair of spring invitationals. Angosta tied for sixth at minus-nine (207) at The Chevron Collegiate on Tuesday. She produced the lowest score of any freshman and any Big 12 player in the field.
Lau is closing in on becoming TCU's all-time birdies leader. She has carded 349 over her four-year run in Fort Worth, including 11 on her way to a tie for 25th at minus-four (212) at The Chevron Collegiate. Lau needs nine birdies to become TCU's school record holder. The senior, tabbed 85th in the Scoreboard individual rankings, has finished under-par in 18 of 21 rounds this season.
Barroso Sa strung together consecutive top-20 individual finishes at the Jim West Classic and Puerto Rico Classic.
Winans is one of three players to crack TCU's lineup in each of its six tournaments alongside Lau and Barroso Sa. Her best result thus far is a two-under 214 and 28th place finish at the Jim West Classic in October.
Dimitrova and Clancy comprised the fourth and fifth slots in the Horned Frogs' lineup card in their final three fall events. Dimitrova racked up a career-high seven birdies and set a new personal best low-18 score (five-under, 67) in the final round of the Sam Golden Invitational in September, her first collegiate tournament. Clancy earned starts at the 2023 NCAA Regionals and the NCAA National Championships and finished tied for 16th at last season's Big 12 Championship.
