TCU junior is tied for eight at six strokes under par
CARLSBAD, Calif. – A third consecutive under par round saw Kirstin Angosta maintain top-10 positioning on the NCAA D1 Women's Golf Championships leaderboard.
Angosta signed for a one-under 71 in round three on Sunday at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. The steady performance brought her cumulative score to six strokes under par (210).
Originally from Las Vegas, Angosta is among five players tied for eighth with 18 holes remaining to determine the NCAA individual champion. Angosta will start Monday's final round four strokes back of co-leaders Farah O'Keefe (Texas) and Catherine Park (USC).
She is among a select group of players vying for the grandest prize in college golf. The top 15 teams and eight highest-placing individuals on non-advancing teams earned the right to play a final round.
Angosta began round three tied for fourth at five-under. Teeing off on the back nine, she rattled off three straight birdies on holes 14-16 and was level with O'Keefe atop the leaderboard. She picked up a fourth birdie on the par-5 second hole before closing out her round with a run of seven pars.
The junior continues to top the tournament with 15 birdies. Of Angosta's birdies, 10 have come on the second nine, which has played more favorably, illustrating her ability to capitalize on the scoring holes.
Angosta has now scored par or better in five straight rounds and six of her last seven dating back to the Big 12 Championship, where she earned All-Tournament team accolades. The standout showing at La Costa has trimmed her scoring average to 70.8.
She is aiming to become the first TCU golfer to earn NCAA Championships all-tournament team recognition, an honor reserved for the top 15 finishers including ties. Angosta is only the second Horned Frog to advance to individual play at Nationals.
Angosta will tee off on the back nine at 3:10 p.m. CT on Monday. The final round will air live on NBC Golf Channel.
