Horned Frogs fall 65-43, host No. 23 West Virginia on Tuesday
FORT WORTH – Still shorthanded, TCU gave No. 7 Texas all it could handle for 20 minutes on Saturday in Schollmaier Arena before the Longhorns pulled away in the second half.
TCU fell 65-43 Texas in its second of three straight games opposite ranked foes.
A 9-0 Horned Frogs run to close the first half made it a one-possession entering halftime, with Texas ahead 23-20. TCU (15-8, 2-10 Big 12) got within two points of the Longhorns at 29-27 with 6:45 to go in the third quarter. Texas (22-3, 9-3 Big 12) blew the game open with a 16-1 run over the ensuing 5:45. The Longhorns outscored the Horned Frogs 42-23 in the second half.
Agnes Emma-Nnopu came one rebound shy of her fourth double-double of the 2023-24 campaign, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds. Aaliyah Roberson (11 points, six rebounds) and Una Jovanovic (10 points, four rebounds) joined Emma-Nnopu in double figures.
Facing one of the country's most prolific offenses – Texas ranks eighth nationally in scoring (83.8 ppg) – TCU clamped down on the Longhorns through the first 20 minutes. Texas' 23 first half points were its fewest in a game all season. TCU held the Longhorns to 10-30 shooting and just one 3-pointer in the first half.
TCU endured uncharacteristic offensive struggles of its own. The Horned Frogs connected eight times from downtown but shot 29 percent from the field, converting just six field goals inside the arc. TCU's 43 points were its fewest in a game all season.
3-pointers from Roberson and Sydney Harris had the Horned Frogs within five points of Texas after one.
Texas opened up a 23-11 advantage midway through the second frame. Emma-Nnopu sparked TCU's string of nine straight points with consecutive deep balls before Jovanovic capped the run via an and-one with 1:30 left in the half.
The Longhorns shot 10-12 from the field in the third quarter. TCU went without a field goal for more than six minutes.
Texas led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter.
The Longhorns turned 19 TCU giveaways into a 20-6 edge in points off turnovers.
TCU assisted on 11-14 field goals, with Tara Manumaleuga tallying six to lead the Horned Frogs in the category for the third straight game.
