Distance Frogs look to punch ticket to national championship meet
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – TCU cross country looks to punch its ticket to the NCAA Championships at the South Central Regional meet at Watts Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 15.
Running at Watts Cross Country Course for the third time this season, the Frogs gear up for another 6k on the women's side and the first 10k of the season for the men. The South Central Region features Arkansas, LSU, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M and Tulane, among others.
TCU wrapped up a successful regular season, arguably its best in program history. The men won four straight team titles to begin the year, and the women had three invitational crowns, sweeping the John McKenzie Invitational, UTA Gerald Richey Invitational and the LA Tech Mook 4 Invitational. They followed it up with a strong performance at the Big 12 Championships two weeks ago, where the men earned their best finish in program history, taking home sixth as a team behind five ranked squads.
Individually, Tabitha Ngao has three race wins for the women, while Graydon Morris has a pair for the men, along with Tate Underwood. Ngao and Underwood also earned national recognition from the conference office, being named Big 12 Cross Country Runners of the Week on Sept. 10.
Ranked No. 6 in the final regional rankings, the TCU men have their sights set on a ticket to the NCAA Championship meet. They look to build off a strong performance at Big 12s in their first 10k race of the season. The Frogs senior trio of Stone Burke, Noah Winters and Morris anchor the men's squad and are looking to go out with a bang on Friday.
The Horned Frog women are ranked No. 14 in the region heading into the weekend's 6k race. A young core highlighted by Ngao with three individual wins on the year leads the TCU women alongside sophomore Mckenzie Bailey and freshman Ava Santora.
