TCU leads the nation in air rifle average
FORT WORTH – The No. 2 ranked TCU women's rifle team returns to action Sunday at The Citadel. The match will feature TCU, The Citadel and The Citadel's women's squad. Action is slated to begin at 7 a.m. at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
TCU will travel seven shooters to the match and will be without its top three average leaders. Jeanne Haverhill and Katie Zaun are making their way back from Europe after competing in the Meyton Cup in Austria as well as the H&N Cup in Germany. Zaun qualified for four finals and took home two bronze medals, both at the Meyton Cup. Haverhill advanced to one final and finished sixth. Stephanie Grundsoee will also miss the match as she is off to Cairo to compete in a World Cup.
Plenty of experience will be on the firing line at The Citadel. Stephanie Allan, Mikole Hogan, Nina Schuett and Anne White have served as counters in various matches throughout the season. All four rank in the top 50 in the NCAA in aggregate average.
Allan remains the only shooter in the NCAA to boast a perfect air rifle score. She sits fourth on the squad with a 595.2 air rifle average and is fifth with a 582.10 smallbore average.
Hogan has reached the 590 plateau in air rifle in all 10 matches this season and is averaging a 592.90. Her 583.30 smallbore average is fourth-best on the squad. Twice this season, Hogan has turned in an aggregate of 1,180 or higher.
Schuett served as a counter in both disciplines a week ago. She turned in top-5 scores in the match at Ohio State, firing a 586 in smallbore and a 595 in air rifle. It was the third time this season she topped the 1,180 aggregate mark.
After missing the final four matches of the fall, White has made a strong return to action. On the season, she owns a 581.67 smallbore average and a 593.67 air rifle average.
The trio of Annie Downum, Kaylynn Slaughter and Gianna Yokoe made the most of their first road trip of the season. Slaughter and Yokoe each set career highs in smallbore while Downum matched her career-high with a 590 in air rifle.
On the season, TCU sits first nationally in air rifle average (2,384.00) and second in smallbore average (2,351.00).
