Frogs Conclude Tournament Season at Miami Spring Invite

Chiho Mushika makes TCU debut

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – TCU women's tennis completed its final tournament before dual match season at the Miami Spring Invitational Jan. 12-14 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs totaled 10 wins over the course of three days taking on opponents from Miami, UCF and Vanderbilt.

Day One
Jade Otway, Isabel Pascual and Helena Narmont collected a singles win on day one of the invitational against No. 21 Miami. Otway defeated Leonie Schuknecht in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) moving to 2-1 in singles this season. Pascual battled back against Antonia Balzert after dropping the first set 0-6. The junior took set two and three 6-4 and moved to 7-5 in singles this season.

Narmont took down Maria Paula Vargas in straight sets after claiming the first set tie break 7-6 (10-8) and winning 6-1 in set two. The junior posted a 7-6 singles record during the tournament season.

Day Two
Raquel Caballero Chica had the only TCU singles win on day two with a three-set victory over UCF's Anique Kattenberg (6-1, 3-6, 6-1). The freshman went on to win her doubles match against UCF in one set (7-5) alongside Otway.

Day Three
On day three of the tournament the Frogs swept the doubles against No. 17 Vanderbilt. Chiho Mushika earned her first TCU win alongside Yu-Chin Tsai with a 6-3 victory over Holly Staff and Celia-Belle Mohr. Mushika went on to defeat Naomi Katz in singles in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).

Caballero and Otway earned their second doubles win on the weekend with a 7-5 win over Valeria Ray and Sonya Macavei. The duo heads into dual season with a 7-2 record. Caballero went on to earn her fifth singles win of the season in a three-set battle against Sonya Macavei (6-4, 1-6, 6-4).

The team leading doubles team of Destinee Martins and Isabel Pascual (9-7) wrapped up the weekend earning their ninth win of the season in one set 6-3.
