Horned Frogs have 13 home duals on the docket
FORT WORTH – TCU men's tennis matches and invitationals have returned to the Horned Frogs' athletics composite calendar.
Head coach David Roditi announced the program's complete 2023-24 schedule on Thursday.
TCU has 28 competitions on the docket, highlighted by 13 home duals. The Horned Frogs are set to engage in 16 tilts vs. 2023 NCAA Tournament participants, including home affairs against Texas, Baylor, North Carolina, Stanford and Tennessee.
Fall
The season kicks off with five fall invitationals, beginning with a pair of overlapping events on Sept. 21-24. TCU will split its squad evenly between the Battle in the Bay Classic, hosted by University of San Francisco, and the inaugural US College Cup Invitational in Torreon, Mexico.
Trips to northern California during the third week of September for the Battle in the Bay Classic are a yearly tradition. The Horned Frogs have won two of the tournament's last four singles championships. In 2022, fifth year senior Jake Fearnley claimed the crown while junior Pedro Vives won four consecutive matches en route to the consolation singles title.
The US College Cup Invitational features singles play. The field includes athletes from conference rivals Texas and Baylor.
TCU then anticipates traveling a handful of athletes north on Oct. 1-8 to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the ITA All-American Championships. Main draw and qualifying singles and doubles selections will be announced by the ITA at a later date.
Following a training taper, the highlight of the Horned Frogs' fall slate arrives. TCU hosts the ITA Texas Regional from Oct. 19-24 at the outdoor Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The five-day affair is arguably the most important of TCU's fall invitationals. Regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists automatically qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships, held from Nov. 1-5 in San Diego, California. TCU sent three athletes to the grand finale of fall tennis last season. Lui Maxted and Sander Jong finished as the national runner-up in doubles while Fearnley advanced to the quarterfinals of the 32-player singles bracket.
Indoor
Aside from TCU's month-long Christmas holiday, the Horned Frogs will seldom leave home during the winter.
All-but-one of the Horned Frogs confirmed indoor duals will be contested on the purple courts.
TCU's season-opener is identical to its first dual in 2022. The Horned Frogs commence the 2024 campaign against Abilene Christian over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend on Jan. 14.
The tussle with the Wildcats ignites a five-match homestand.
TCU then hosts ITA Kickoff Weekend for the ninth consecutive season from Jan. 27-28, with regional victors advancing to the ITA Indoor National Championships. The TCU Regional includes Tulsa, Princeton and Rice. As the top seed, TCU battles Rice on Jan. 27 before squaring off with the Golden Hurricane or Tigers the following day.
The strength of schedule ratchets up considerably as January wraps. TCU welcomes Stanford (Feb. 2) and Tennessee (Feb. 4) to Fort Worth over the first weekend in February. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals in 2023. The match vs. the Volunteers marks the third consecutive season TCU and Tennessee have played indoors. TCU downed the Volunteers 4-1 in Knoxville last season and defeated Tennessee in the 2022 ITA Indoor National Championship final.
The indoor regular season concludes with a jaunt to Ann Arbor, Michigan on Feb. 10 to battle the Wolverines, whom TCU knocked off 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
The ITA Indoor National Championships run from Feb. 16-19 in New York City. Matches will take place on the campus of host school Columbia University and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Outdoor
Perhaps no team will play as daunting a schedule in March as TCU. The Horned Frogs have eight confirmed contests, all of which are against 2022 NCAA Tournament participants. Seven of the duals are road affairs.
The Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center will be the epicenter of college tennis on March 2, as TCU hosts Texas in a nonconference dual to begin the outdoor season. TCU and Texas engaged one another four times in 2022 and battled for a national or Big 12 title thrice.
The Horned Frogs are then set to embark on a grueling seven-match road trip over the remainder of the month.
The extended stretch away from home begins with a three-match sweep through California to play UCLA (March 13), USC (March 15) and Pepperdine (March 17). All three duals are return trips from 2022 home matches for TCU.
Big 12 play follows in earnest. TCU opens its conference slate at Baylor and Texas on March 22 and March 24, respectively. The Horned Frogs hit the road once more to meet Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in a Friday-Sunday two-step on March 28-30.
Four consecutive home matches greet the Horned Frogs in April. TCU first faces conference newcomer BYU on Apr. 6. Up next is a visit from Texas Tech two days later. The Battle for the Iron Skillet then hits the hard courts, as TCU hosts SMU on Apr. 11. The Horned Frogs put a bow on the regular season and conference play against UCF on Apr. 13 in a match that will also include senior day celebrations.
Dates for the Horned Frogs' home nonconference matches vs. Baylor, UNC and UT Arlington will be announced in the coming weeks.
TCU's postseason run starts with the Big 12 Championship on Apr. 19-21.
The NCAA Regionals follow on May 3-4 across campus sites. Super Regional weekend runs from May 10-11. The NCAA D1 Men's Tennis Championship takes place from May 16-25 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Start times and any broadcast specifications for each match will be announced at a later date.
