Horned Frogs are the only team to have all three projected doubles tandems ranked
FORT WORTH – A veritable Horned Frog army canvassed the Division I Men's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Preseason rankings, which were unveiled on Tuesday.
Six Horned Frogs combined to produce a nation-leading eight singles and doubles selections. TCU was the only program to have all three of its projected doubles teams ranked. The Horned Frogs joined Texas and Virginia as one of just three teams with five ranked singles players.
All five of TCU's singles honorees are returners from 2022-23.
Jake Fearnley headlined TCU's rankings haul. Fearnley, a fifth year senior, was tabbed the nation's No. 7 singles player. The ranking is a career-high for Fearnley, who ascended to No. 8 in the ITA singles rankings in November. Fearnley produced a team-leading 26-10 singles record last season, including an 11-2 mark in fall invitationals.
Two other Horned Frogs achieved career-high singles rankings and cracked the top-50.
Jack Pinnington skyrocketed to No. 26 after concluding the 2022-23 season in possession of the No. 53 post. Pinnington, the reigning ITA Texas Region Rookie of the Year, went 8-4 in duals in his freshman campaign.
Fellow sophomore Sebastian Gorzny made a similar leap, jumping from No. 84 in the final set of rankings in 2022-23 to a career-best No. 43. The Austin native was nearly untouchable last season. Gorzny finished his first year in Fort Worth with a 21-3 mark in singles play. He notched a team-leading 17 singles victories in duals on his way to Big 12 Freshman of the Year accolades.
Rounding out TCU's singles selections were juniors Pedro Vives and Lui Maxted, who checked in at No. 82 and No. 123, respectively.
Vives appears primed for a breakout fall. He boasts a team-high universal tennis rating (UTR) of 13.90 on the heels of an impressive summer on tour. Vives, from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, bagged two doubles titles and advanced to the quarterfinals or beyond in nine tournaments from June-July.
Maxted was ultra-reliable out of the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights for TCU last spring. He went 11-1 in duals and did not suffer a defeat until TCU's season finale in the NCAA semifinals.
The quintet was featured in the doubles table as well.
Gorzny and Vives claimed the No. 13 ranking, their highest ever. The duo led TCU with 20 doubles victories in 2022-23 and were the only Horned Frog pair to line up alongside one another in every match.
Fearnley and Pinnington are expected to compete as TCU's No. 1 or No. 2 tandem this spring, and the ITA took notice, ranking the Brits 17th. Fearnley and Pinnington rolled to two NCAA Regionals wins in May in their first doubles duals together.
