Parra earned AVCA National honors and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week as she led TCU in kills each match at the Fight in the Fort
FORT WORTH – Following her record-breaking weekend at the Fight in the Fort, Melanie Parra was named the AVCA/GameChanger Division I National Player of the Week and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Parra tallied a whopping 76 kills, averaging 6.91 kills per set while hitting .394 over three matches. The Fight in the Fort All-Tournament MVP led the Horned Frogs in kills in all three of TCU's wins and posted an incredible 85.5 points over that stretch.
Highlighted by her career-best 34 kills against Florida State, Parra is just the second player in program history to be named AVCA National Player of the Week. It's her first national and Big 12 weekly award in her career.
She kicked off the Fight in the Fort by recording a then-career best 27 kills in the Frogs' 3-1 win over Hawai'i. She hit .453 while also adding seven digs and a team-leading three service aces.
Against Florida State, Parra posted a record-breaking 34 kills, the school record for total kills in four sets and the second most total kills in any match in program history. With her 10 digs, she also posted her third double-double of the season.
Hitting .388 against the Seminoles, she had a match-best 13 kills in the fourth set alone. Parra recorded the first 33+ kill game for TCU since 1998 and was also just one kill shy of tying the all-time Big 12 record (35). Her 34 kills are the most by a Big 12 player this season and the third-most by any player in Division I in any match this season.
Capping off TCU's perfect 3-0 weekend, Parra led the Frogs with 15 kills against Western Carolina at a .314 clip. She also had 11 digs and led the team with three aces.
Earning Fight in the Fort All-Tournament MVP honors, Parra hit over .300 in all three games and had six or more kills in nine of 11 sets played. She started all 11 sets throughout the tournament and also averaged 2.55 digs per set.
Averaging 25.30 kills per match at the Fight in the Fort, Parra now ranks fifth in the NCAA in points per set (5.51) and kills per set (4.63). She also sits atop of the Big 12 leaderboard in both categories as well.
Her impact has been immediate since arriving in Fort Worth. Starting all 11 matches this season, Parra has recorded four double-doubles and has led the team in kills nine times. She has tallied 15 or more kills in six consecutive matches, with the Frogs going 5-1 over that stretch.
TCU (7-4) is on a five-match winning streak, with a 10-match home winning streak dating back to last season (Sept. 24, 2022).
The Horned Frogs begin their Big 12 slate with two matches against Kansas State (Sept. 21-22). Both games begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
