Forman was a four-time All-Big Ten Conference player at Northwestern
FORT WORTH – TCU men's tennis head coach David Roditi has announced the hire of Steven Forman as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.
In his role, Forman will facilitate on-court coaching, serve as a hitting partner and analyze scouting reports while lending his efforts to all areas of program operations. Forman joins 10th-year assistant coach Devin Bowen on staff alongside Roditi.
"I'm super excited to join a championship level program with a great history and culture," Forman said. "David and Devin have done an amazing job with the program over the years and I look forward to helping add to the success here."
Forman recently put a bow on a decorated collegiate playing career at Northwestern. He played four seasons for the Wildcats from 2019-2023, earning All-Big Ten conference accolades all four years. Forman racked up 73 combined victories in duals. He anchored the No. 1 singles position for the Wildcats over his final three seasons to lead the Wildcats to the second round of the NCAA Tournament each year. A singles specialist, Forman ascended as high as No. 25 in the ITA rankings and was a two-time qualifier (2022, 2023) for the NCAA Individual Championships.
"We are excited to add Steven to our coaching staff and to our Horned Frog family," Roditi said. "He was an outstanding player at Northwestern with a reputation of a hardworking competitor who understands the game very well. He will make a great coach, and our players will benefit tremendously by having him around. He already loves purple and we feel as though we landed a great 'recruit' in him this summer."
Originally from Troy, Michigan, Forman has coached junior players at nearby Bloomfield Tennis & Fitness since 2019. He also provided individual instruction to junior players this past summer at Blue Chip Tennis Academy in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has coached competitive high school players throughout the southeastern Michigan region.
Forman was duly honored as an All-Big Ten first teamer his junior and senior seasons at Northwestern after producing a 32-10 combined singles record. He also picked up 25 doubles wins, with 19 coming on court one.
Last spring, Forman knocked off eight ranked opponents in singles play and closed the books on his college career by winning six of his final eight matches. Notable victories of his included straight set triumphs over No. 4 Garrett Johns (Duke), No. 11 Andrew Fenty (Michigan). And No. 41 Ozan Baris (Michigan State).
Forman's junior season proved to be his most fruitful. He amassed a 21-5 singles record and 13-12 mark in doubles to lead the Wildcats in total victories and singles win percentage (.808). Forman was a unanimous All-Big Ten first team selection and went on to reach the round of 32 of the NCAA Individual Championships. Forman was also Northwestern's recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2022. The citation is the most prestigious academic accolade awarded by the conference and recognizes athletes who demonstrate the "greatest proficiency in athletics and scholastic work."
A stalwart at the top of the lineup throughout his tenure in Evanston, Forman cemented himself as the Wildcats' No. 1 singles player his sophomore year. He went 6-3 in the top flight and cracked the top-90 of the ITA rankings for the first time in his career. Forman also posted a 13-6 mark in doubles.
As a freshman in 2019-20, Forman tallied five victories before COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the NCAA spring sports schedule.
Forman played his first collegiate season for Michigan in 2018-19 after signing with the Wolverines out of Troy High School.
He is among the most credentialed prep tennis talents the Great Lakes State has produced in recent memory. Forman, a two-time All-American, was tabbed the No. 2 overall prospect in the United States in the class of 2018 by TennisRecruiting.net. As a senior, he went 14-1 vs. five-star recruits and won 38 consecutive matches at the national level before commencing his college career. Forman twice won Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) boys singles championships and led Troy to a runner-up finish in 2018. A three-time MHSAA all-state selection, Forman received Michigan's "Mr. Tennis" award, which honors each state's top high school player, his senior year.
Forman earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 2022 from Northwestern. He completed a master of science degree in management studies at Northwestern in 2023.
