The senior is making his first career Grand Slam appearance
FORT WORTH – Come July 3, TCU men's tennis senior Jake Fearnley will be sporting an all-white kit on the All England Club grass.
Fearnley, from Edinburgh, Scotland, was awarded a wild card onto the main doubles draw of The Championships, Wimbledon 2023 by the Lawn Tennis Association.
The honor signifies Fearnley's first career Grand Slam appearance.
Fearnley boosted his wild card candidacy behind a breakthrough victory on the ATP Challenger Tour on Saturday. He and Johannus Monday (Tennessee) captured the Rothesay Open Men's Doubles Championship in Nottingham, England. Fearnley and Monday, who were classmates together at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, knocked off the ATP top-150 tandem of Liam Broady and Jonny O'Mara, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7, in the finale.
Fearnley ascended to a career-high ATP doubles ranking of No. 424 following his landmark performance.
He is the second confirmed Horned Frog selection for Wimbledon. Cam Norrie, a three-time TCU men's tennis All-American from 2015-2017, was an automatic qualifier in singles. Norrie is currently the British No. 1 and World No. 14.
Fearnley's wild card marks the third time since 1991 that two Horned Frogs have made the main draw of Wimbledon.
TCU's representation at the 2022 iteration of the tournament was twofold, as Norrie was joined by his countryman Alastair Gray. Norrie memorably advanced to the semifinals of the Championships before falling to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Gray won his opening round match in straight sets to pick up his first career Grand Slam victory.
The draw for the men's and women's singles and doubles championships is set for June 30.
