Horned Frogs face No. 19 Texas A&M at 4 p.m. on Saturday
FORT WORTH – Step one of the Horned Frogs NCAA Tournament journey is complete.
No. 2 TCU blew by UT Arlington 4-0 on Friday on the Bartzen Varsity Courts in the first round of the NCAA D1 Men's Tennis Championship.
The Horned Frogs (23-2) advanced to the Round of 32 with the victory, where they will meet No. 19 Texas A&M (19-11) at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Fort Worth Regional Final. The Aggies defeated SMU 4-1 to set up the rivalry renewal.
"The guys got it done," head coach Roditi said. "Congratulations to UTA for winning their conference. One of the best teams they've had and a lot of good players, and our guys came to play. It was hot out here, and the guys were able to beat both UTA and the rain. Thank you to all the people who came out. Huge match tomorrow against A&M. Please come out. It'll be hot, it'll be humid. Go Frogs."
On the hottest recorded day of 2023 – temperatures hovered in the upper-90's at first serve – and with thunderstorms in the forecast, TCU took care to beat Mother Nature to the clinch.
As was the case in TCU's 7-0 regular season win over the Mavericks (16-10) on March 3, the Horned Frogs did not drop a set all dual. TCU coasted to the doubles point behind respective 6-2 and 6-3 wins on court three and court one. The Horned Frogs made the end result academic with singles sweeps in the first, second and fifth flights.
TCU notched its eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament opening round victory – all of which have been at home – with the result. The Horned Frogs boosted the program's all-time NCAA Tournament record to 47-32 while improving their home postseason mark to 21-1. The win also swelled Roditi's career NCAA Tournament record to 21-8.
Doubles Rundown
TCU played the match without three-time ITA doubles All-American Luc Fomba, yet the personnel loss did not disrupt TCU's outward doubles chemistry.
Jake Fearnley, Fomba's counterpart on the nation's No. 2 ITA doubles team, slid down to the no. 3 post alongside fellow Brit Jack Pinnington. Though Friday's dual marked their first time playing together, Fearnley and Pinnington looked every bit the part of a seasoned pair.
The duo coasted to a 6-3 takedown of Lachlan Robertson and Joan Torres Espinosa to snare TCU's first singles set. Fearnley and Pinnington broke twice, first at 2-0 and later with the score 4-2 to position themselves for the victory on serve.
Elsewhere, Sebastian Gorzny and Pedro Vives ascended to the top flight while the No. 22-ranked tandem of Sander Jong and Lui Maxted lined up on court two.
Gorzny and Vives won three consecutive games against Solano Caffarena and Anton Shepp to punctuate a 6-3 doubles point clincher. The victory was the pair's 20th in 2022-2023 and second as TCU's No. 1 doubles team. They lead TCU in dual doubles wins (16).
Jong and Maxted were knotted at 4-4 with Santiago Giamichelle and Dante Teramo at the time of the clinch.
TCU won its eighth consecutive doubles point behind the clean scoresheet. The Horned Frogs are now 22-2 in doubles this season.

Singles Rundown
The Horned Frogs rolled with the same singles lineup, albeit with positional changes on the bottom, as they did in their first meeting with Western Athletic Conference champion UTA.
Fearnley, Jong and Gorzny comprised courts one through three, respectively. Vives got the nod in the fourth flight for the first time this season. Maxted and Tomas Jirousek anchored the bottom spots.
TCU's top-four players all opened up 4-0 set one leads to begin.
Maxted, though, was the first player off the court in the opening frame and the match. After surrendering his first game to Teramo, the sophomore won five straight to go up a set. He punctuated the shutout 6-3 in set two. Maxted improved his season singles record to 10-0 and remains the lone undefeated Frog.
Jong, No. 62 in the ITA singles rankings, hung an identical 6-1, 6-3 score vs. Giamichelle, swelling TCU's edge to 3-0.
Fearnley earned the match-clincher, downing Shepp 6-3, 6-1.
Both Gorzny and Vives were mere moments from polishing off their own victories. Vives raced out to 4-0 head starts in both frames vs. Robertson. His match was left unfinished at 6-1, 5-3. Gorzny took his first set from Caffarena 6-1 and was tied 4-4 but riding a two-game winning streak in the second frame.
Jirousek rallied past Espinosa 7-5 in set one on court six, rallying out of a 3-5 hole.
The singles sweep ensured TCU's 14th shutout of the spring.
