TCU defeated the Mavericks 7-0 in its outdoor season-opener
FORT WORTH – A new season and new court greeted No. 1 TCU on Friday, yet the end result remained unaltered.
The Horned Frogs blanked UT Arlington 7-0 on Friday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in their 2023 outdoor season-opener.
TCU (13-0) did not drop a set all dual. The Horned Frogs claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, then clinched the match with singles sweeps in the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 flights. Both coaching staffs elected to play out the remaining courts.
"It was great to get back on the court after Indoor Nationals," head coach David Roditi said. "Great to see the performance from the guys. Some very good performances from [Sebastian] Gorzny, from [Pedro] Vives – good to see those guys get a win at No. 1 doubles – and the highlight for us was to see some guys who haven't played as much get to play today, be out there in front of the home crowd, with the pressure on, and deliver a win.
"A good start to the outdoor season," Roditi continued. "Now we just need to keep getting better, keep building on it and take care of our bodies. Our schedule gets really tough with our upcoming matches at home – UCLA, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Illinois. The crowd wants to see good teams and good performances, and it doesn't get any better than that. We love seeing people out here and enjoying what we have to offer. We love playing in front of our Frog family. Go Frogs."
The Horned Frogs moved to 11-2 in outdoor home-openers under Roditi. The win was the program's first in such a scenario in three years.
TCU extended its home winning streak to eight, dating back to the 2022 campaign.
Friday's contest was TCU's first match since hoisting its second consecutive ITA Indoor National Championship on Feb. 20. The crosstown tilt was also TCU's first home dual since hosting ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 28-29.
