
Rifle Begins Postseason Push At Air Force

NCAA Qualifier is slated for Saturday
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team heads to Air Force for the NCAA Qualifier, the final score needed to solidify their spot in the NCAA Tournament. TCU enters the weekend ranked No. 1 and holds the top three-score average in the nation.
The Horned Frogs will be without two of their regular counters as Kristen Hemphill and Abigail Gordon are headed to Cairo, Egypt for a World Cup. Anne White and Stephanie Grundsoee will depart for the Egypt following the match.
TCU sits second nationally with its season aggregate average of 4,741.5. The Frogs are the nation's top air rifle squad, boasting a season average of 2,385.4. In smallbore, TCU sits second nationally at 2,359.83.
Saturday's match will feature two of the top shooters in the NCAA in Julie Johannessen and Grundsoee. Johannessen broke all three NCAA records in her last outing and has fired back-to-back perfect air rifle scores. Grundsoee has missed the last two matches after competing in the World Cup held in Jakarata, Indonesia. Johannessen sits second nationally with an aggregate average of 1,190.09, while Grundsoee is third nationally with a 1,188.75 aggregate average.
Freshman Katie Zaun had her best collegiate match in the PRC Championships, shooting a 593 in smallbore and a 599 in air rifle.
The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (CT).
