Miller scores a team-high 16 points
TORONTO – TCU dropped its first game of the season, 74-66, to No. 24 Clemson Saturday in the Discount Tire Hall of Fame Series Toronto, held at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
Scarborough, Ontario native Emanuel Miller led the Horned Frogs (7-1) in scoring with 16 points in his homecoming back to the Toronto area. Micah Peavy had 12 points to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Jameer Nelson Jr. rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points and added three steals.
A back-and-forth first half saw nine lead changes and a 36-35 advantage for Clemson at the break.
A mid-range jumper by Miller gave TCU a 39-38 lead with 18:48 to play. That lead change was the game's 13th and final lead change of the game.
A 19-3 run by Clemson (9-0) gave the Tigers a 57-42 lead with 13:05 remaining. The Horned Frogs chipped away by making its free throws, finishing 25-of-33 from line for 75.8 percent. TCU cut the deficit to six points, 60-54, with 8:23 to play following two free throws by Nelson. The Frogs, who shot 32.2 percent from the field, made just two field goals the remainder of the game.
Joseph Girard III led the Tigers with 21 points.
The Horned Frogs return to action on Saturday against Arizona State at 9 p.m. at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
