Six Frogs head to Dallas for fall tournament
FORT WORTH – Six athletes from the TCU women's tennis team head to Dallas for the annual SMU Invitational at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
The tournament will take place over the course of three days (Oct. 6-8) with doubles play beginning at 9 a.m., and singles play to follow, beginning around 10 a.m. The Invitational includes SMU, Washington, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Wichita State and Kansas.
Destinee Martins, Isabel Pascual, Jade Otway, Raquel Caballero Chica, Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai make the trip east to represent the Horned Frogs.
Martins is coming off early season success starting with the Battle in the Bay Classic where she was 1-1 in singles, winning her opening round in straight sets. Two weeks later she hit the court with doubles partner, Pascual, where the duo went 2-1 at the ITA Women's All-American Championships with a notable performance in the second round topping the #48 pair in the country Berankova/Jackson of Duke (8-5).
Pascual traveled west for the Battle in the Bay Classic coming back with a 1-1 record under her belt after defeating her University of Arizona opponent 6-4, 6-2.
Reigning NIT Championship MVP, Otway, will make her first appearance of the season in Dallas after coming off a successful summer. Chica is set to make her collegiate debut on the trip after traveling to Fort Worth from Barcelona, Spain where she studied at the Rafa Nadal International School.
Narmont was 0-1 at the Battle in the Bay Classic and looks to bounce back this weekend.
Tsai hit the court for the first time this season at the ITF Hilton Head 15k where she was 1-1 after defeating #1206 Kelly Williford in straight sets in the first round.
UP NEXT
The Horned Frogs will travel to Waco, Texas next week (Oct. 12-16) for the ITA Texas Regionals hosted by Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center.
