Horned Frogs move to 3-0 for the third time in the last four seasons
TULSA – No. 3 TCU traveled for the first time in 2023 on Sunday, and the program's winning ways followed the Horned Frogs north to the Sooner State.
TCU downed Tulsa 6-1 inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs notched their third 3-0 start to a season in the last four years with the result.
TCU claimed the doubles point via victories on courts two and three. The Horned Frogs then turned in a dominant singles effort, sweeping the top-four flights and dropping just one match.
"Good road win, our first road win of the year," head coach David Roditi said. "Tulsa is always a tough match. We've played each other for a long, long time, and they've beaten us a lot, and they have beaten us a lot here at Tulsa. Our guys were ready. Same sort of joy on my part. I'm proud of our team. They were ready. They were ready for a battle. We played really well in doubles. Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley played very well in doubles as well as our No. 3 doubles team.
"In singles, there were a lot of close first sets, and we were able to win most of those and put the pressure on Tulsa. From there, we kept going. It's the beginning of the season, so there's always room for improvement. There's some spots we need to play better in at certain moments, but overall, I was very pleased with our performance. Now we get to go home and get ready for [ITA] Kickoff. It's going to be tough. Three really good teams coming to town. We'll get ready for Gonzaga on the first day and then see what happens. Go Frogs."
TCU has now won a program-record 15 consecutive indoor matches dating back to 2022.
The victory extended the Horned Frogs' all-time mark vs. the Golden Hurricane to 9-4.
Doubles Rundown
Fomba and Fearnley immediately applied a pressure point in the No. 2 doubles position. Last year's ITA No. 1 doubles pair, the duo coasted to a 6-1 victory. Fomba and Fearnley won four straight games to help TCU close in on the doubles point.
The tandem is now 20-5 over the last two seasons.
The doubles point soon followed, via an efficient effort by Sebastian Gorzny and Pedro Vives in the No. 3 post. Gorzny and Vives built a commanding 4-1 lead, then alternated points the remainder of the set to the tune of a 6-3 win.
Gorzny and Vives, both of whom are underclassmen, have won five of their six completed doubles matches since debuting together at the ITA Texas Regional in October.
TCU likely would have secured a clean sweep had the No. 1 match played. Sander Jong and Lui Maxted led 5-4 before Gorzny and Vives clinched.
TCU is now 3-0 and has yet to drop a match in doubles play in 2023.

Singles Rundown
TCU claimed five of its first six opening sets and 10-of-12 overall.
Maxted delivered arguably his most complete singles performance of 2022-23. The sophomore was the first player to finish, as he downed Tulsa's Callum Gale 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 position. Maxted – now 3-0 in singles play this spring, closed the show in both sets with wins in four consecutive games.
Maxted was one of five players to shut out the Golden Hurricane.
Fomba was the second Horned Frog off the court. He faced Connor Di Marco in the No. 3 matchup. Fomba, the No. 28 ITA singles player, downed Di Marco via 6-3 wins in both sets.
Fearnley, who made his 2023 singles debut, earned the match-clincher. The junior, who entered the match ranked No. 8 in the ITA singles rankings, drew perhaps the toughest singles assignment of any player in Stefan Hampe, an ITA top-60 singles player throughout the fall season. Fearnley battled through adversity in both sets. He fell behind 3-1, only to win three straight games and five of the final six to take set one 6-4. Fearnley again battled out of a two-point deficit in the second set. Hampe built a 5-3 lead, only for Fearnley take the final four games and clinch match point.
Gorzny then earned his first collegiate shutout with TCU leading 4-1. Playing in the No. 6 singles position for the second straight match, Gorzny outlasted Ezequiel Santalla of the Golden Hurricane 7-6 in a back-and-forth opening set. He skunked Santalla 7-0 in the tiebreaker. With the momentum pendulum swung firmly in his favor, Gorzny blitzed Santalla over the second half of the final frame, transforming a 2-2 gridlock into a 6-2 final tally to sew up the win.
Jong played out his match on court one with the competition already decided. He defeated Tulsa's Kody Pearson in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, to boost his season and career record in the No. 1 singles position to 3-0.
Tulsa's lone victory came on court five, as the Golden Hurricane's Adham Gaber defeated TCU's Pedro Vives 6-4, 6-3.
TCU is 14-2 in singles play thus far in 2023. The Horned Frogs have won 30-of-33 completed sets.
