Mapaya, 4x100 and 4x400 relays all seeded No. 2
FORT WORTH – Following a successful weekend at the Big 12 Championships, the Horned Frogs are ready to continue their postseason at the NCAA West Regional.
Twenty-three TCU student-athletes qualified for the NCAA West Regional and TCU is seeded in the top 10 in seven different events. The regional takes the top 48 athletes in individual events and the top 24 relays.
The preliminary competitions are scheduled from May 25-May 28 in Fayetteville, Ar. The top 12 out of each region will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.

TCU Outdoor Notes
Chengetayi (Du) Mapaya enters as TCU's top-seeded individual athlete at No. 2 in the triple jump. Mapaya is fresh off his third consecutive Big 12 Championship in the triple jump after jumping 16.84m (55-3) in Lubbock this past weekend. The Harare, Zimbabwe, native has collected five total Big 12 Championships and finished third at this year's NCAA Indoor Championships in the triple jump with a leap of 16.51m (54-2).
Two TCU relays are seeded at No. 2 as well. The men's 4x100 team of Bryson Stubblefield, Tinotenda Matiyenga, Kundai Maguranyanga and Robert Gregory Jr. clocked a 38.50 (38.62@) at this year's Big 12 Championships enroute to TCU's second consecutive title in the 4x100. The team has run sub-39 three times this season.
The men's 4x400 team of Maguranyanga, Matiyenga, Gregory and Brown is also seeded No. 2 in the NCAA West Regional. The squad ran the third-fastest time in school history at the Tom Jones Memorial on April 16 with a time of 3:02.26.
Gregory comes in as the No. 3 seed in the men's 200m with a time of 20.07@ (3.8w). The national runner-up in the 200m at the NCAA Indoor Championships has run sub-20.50 three times this season and placed third in the 200m at this year's outdoor Big 12 Championships.
Kasey Staley is the highest seed on the women's side, coming in at No. 6 in the women's pole vault. At the Big 12 Championships, she broke her own school record with a height of 4.30m (14-1.25). She garnered a bronze medal at the Big 12 Championships.
In the women's 1500m, Gracie Morris enters as the No. 7 seed with a time of 4:14.59. She currently owns the outdoor school records in the 800m and 1500m, as well as the indoor mile. Most recently, she finished fourth at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 4:24.00 in the 1500m.
Rounding out the top 10 seeds on the women's side is Khyasia Caldwell in the women's long jump. At No. 8, Caldwell comes in with a personal-best mark of 6.46m (21-2.5) after finishing fourth at this year's Big 12 Championships.

2022 NCAA Indoor Championships
The Horned Frogs shined at the NCAA Indoor Championships with the men's team finishing 10th overall with a team score of 20 points.
Robert Gregory Jr. was named the national runner-up in the 200m with a time of 20.77 and Tinotenda Matiyenga followed closely behind him by finishing third with a time of 20.84. Both Frogs earned First Team All-America honors.
Chengetayi (Du) Mapaya was named a First Team All-American after earning bronze in the triple jump with a mark of 16.51m (54-2).

Mapaya returns for his final outdoor season to defend his national title in the outdoor triple jump from 2019. He also garnered a bronze medal at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships as well. As a freshman in 2018, Mapaya reached the championship in the triple jump and finished third with a 16.38m (53-9) jump.
Mapaya secured the national championship in the most dramatic fashion possible. Going into his sixth and final jump of the night, Mapaya was in third place after a jump of 16.94m (55-7) in his fifth attempt. On the final jump of the competition, Mapaya jumped 17.13m (56-2.5) passing up event leader Jordan Scott of Virginia (17.01m, 55-9.75) and winning the national championship. It was TCU's first national title in track and field since Ronnie Baker won the 60m dash in 2016.
He broke the school record in the triple jump at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 16.95m (55-7.5). He currently holds both the indoor and outdoor TCU triple jump records.
