No. 8-seeded TCU set to host No. 9-seeded K-State in first round
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's tennis team is set to open the 2022 Big 12 Championship, hosting Kansas State in first round action this Thursday, April 21, at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
TCU is hosting the Big 12 Championship for the second time since joining the league in 2012-13. The Horned Frogs last hosted the championship event back in 2014.
TCU rounded out the 2021-22 regular season with an overall record of 12-13, which included an 11-6 mark in matches played at home. The Horned Frogs went onto earn the No. 8 seed in this week's Big 12 Championship, while K-State earned the No. 9 seed. The winner of TCU/K-State will go onto face No. 1-seeded Oklahoma at noon on Friday, April 22.
The Horned Frogs are 3-8 all-time in Big 12 Championship matches, which includes a 1-1 record in first round contests. TCU is 2-5 in quarterfinal match-ups and 0-2 all-time in semifinal matches.
TCU is 8-1 against K-State since the Horned Frogs joined the Big 12 Conference. The mark includes having won three straight overall and a 4-1 record against the Wildcats in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs defeated the Wildcats, 4-2, earlier this season in Manhattan, Kan., back on March 20. Thursday's match against K-State will mark the first-ever meeting between the two squads in the Big 12 Championship.
